AbbVie's U.S. Market Access organization partners with payers (e.g., Medicare, VA, etc.), policy makers, treatment providers (e.g., health systems, integrated delivery networks, etc.), and trade partners (e.g., wholesalers, specialty pharmacies, etc.) to ensure affordable patient access to all of AbbVie's products at the state, regional, and national levels. With these objectives in mind, the team collaborates with all internal functions - from Brands to Medical - in full support of AbbVie's full portfolio. Given the Company's deep commitment to patient access, AbbVie's U.S. Market Access organization is creating a new strategy team under the leadership of a General Manager (GM) of Market Access Strategy. Reporting to the VP U.S. Market Access, this is a critical role on the US Market Access Leadership Team that is accountable for understanding future trends, deriving options & scenario planning, and identifying new opportunities for value leveraging all access channels to ensure market leadership of AbbVie's full portfolio of offerings in the U.S. The GM will be responsible for synthesizing and connecting all strategies from the broader U.S. Market Access team to deliver a forward-focused U.S. Market Access approach that is fully integrated to AbbVie's strategic plans and financial results. Finally, the GM and his/her team will effectively orchestrate communication and alignment across the broader U.S. Market Access organization, while modeling the U.S. Market Access' Ambitious Cultural Vision and the broader AbbVie Ways We Work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Delivers overarching leadership and direction to all U.S. Market Access strategies via "think tank" decision support to the VP U.S. Market Access on a variety of strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Builds the new U.S Market Access Strategy team with deep subject matter experts focused on Commercial Payers, Federal/340B, and Medicare/Medicaid.
  • Partners closely with peer GMs on the US Market Access Leadership Team and other cross-functional partners (e.g., Brands/Franchises, Medical, HEOR, Analytics, Pricing, Government Affairs, etc.) to drive the execution of designed strategies.
  • Leverages both his/her deep understanding of the U.S. health care landscape and his/her network of external access Key Opinion Leaders to design U.S. Market Access strategies in response to proposed policy changes and market access customer initiatives.
  • Identifies opportunities and solves for U.S. Market Access risks/gaps in order to deliver optimal access for AbbVie's assets.
  • Works to collaboratively develop compelling narratives to convey the optimal access for AbbVie's assets to broad audiences including senior executives via governance committees.
  • Leverages advanced knowledge of evolving rebate models and their effects per channel to better position AbbVie's products.
  • Identifies new service offerings & opportunities.
  • Understands the supply chain through the drug delivery system and relates impacts to AbbVie.
  • Applies competitive pricing considerations to future portfolio management considerations.
  • Owns the U.S. Market Access strategic plan as well as key components of the No Numbers Long Range Plan.


  • Bachelor's Degree; advanced degree preferred (e.g., MBA, advanced degree in Public Health, advanced degree in Economics, etc.)
  • 10-15+ years of Market Access experience gained through diverse roles in the pharma industry, consultancies, and/or health care institutions
  • Successful cross-functional leadership in Marketing, Sales/Account Management, Finance/Analytics, and/or Government Affairs
  • Demonstrated expertise in AbbVie's current and future Therapeutic Areas
  • Optimal blend of high IQ coupled with effective EQ
