Job Details
Summary:
Provide custom fabrication services and equipment upgrades. Incorporate technologies from various other industries and disciplines to solve problems and create new tools and solutions for the lab environment. Develop solutions and implement corrective actions as needed. Preserve confidentiality and create research advantage by utilizing in house resources to streamline processes and experiments by building artifacts with end user collaboration as requested. Provide general Research assistance when required. Perform renovations, alterations, modifications, installations, repairs, support, and general laboratory end user assistance. Work alone or as part of a team. Provide assistance when required in lab renovations, alterations, new equipment installations, electrical, plumbing, HVAC controls, A/V repairs, upgrades, and general equipment/system installations. 24/7 emergency response.
Responsibilities:
• Provide specialized support services for laboratory, Vivarium, and PMPD areas
• Performs facilities work requests utilizing computerized IWMS and documenting work product
• Communicate and collaborate closely with end users to modify equipment or design and build unavailable fixtures, devices, or labware for specific experiments
• Oversee production of items by outside vendors that cannot be built in house
• Design and build guards and equipment necessary for specific hazards
• Work closely with EHS to alleviate safety and ergonomic concerns in offices and labs
• Provide specialized support services as needed for PMPD and Vivarium areas
• Assists with lab renovations/relocations, including moving equipment, supplies, coordinating tasks with end users, creating & resolving punch-lists, installing misc equipment, and coordinates outside contractors as needed
• Utilize, repair, and install controls as needed
• Available 24/7 for emergency response
Requirements:
Education
• Associates Degree
Experience
• 10+ Years
• Computer literate and able to design objects in a CAD or similar environment.
• Knowledge of a wide range of material properties and fabrication techniques.
• Material layout skills including necessary mathematical ability.
• Can combine disciplines from different fields to achieve desired outcome.
• Ability to manage multiple complicated priorities/tasks.
• Knowledgeable in all phases of electrical / mechanical construction and building maintenance.
• Able to interface with all types of mechanical and construction contractors.
• Exhibit excellent judgement and decision making skills.
• Demonstrated plumbing, mechanical, electrical, low voltage control, and repair abilities.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Shop tools - Fortus printer, Connex printer, Markforged printer, BFB printer, 3D scanner, CNC mill, plastic welder, oxy/acetylene torch (welding and cutting), arc welder, mill, metal lathe, wood lathe, table saw, band saw, radial arm saw, chop saw, jig saw, reciprocating cut off saw, router table, standard drill press, radial arm drill press, horizontal drill press, belt sander, disc sander, bench grinder, jointer, surface planer, horizontal and vertical shapers, hydraulic press, sheet metal roll/shear/brake machine, pipe threader, pressure washer, alkyline baths.
• Power tools - battery and cord powered saws (circular, band, saber, reciprocating) router, drills (including right angle and hammer drills), Dremmel tool, belt sander, air tools (drilling, cutting, shaping, grinding, riveting), electric shear, hydraulic ram/puller/bender, pumps, generators, blowers.
• Hand tools - Layout tools (compass, protractors, calipers, divider, micrometers, pantograph, combination squares, tri square, rivet spacer), tubing benders, pipe cutters, taps and dies, files, reamers, deburring tool, various clamps (including band, bar, C, right angle), hammers (appropriately chosen for the work at hand), saws, levels, internal and external wrenches, torque wrenches, pipe wrenches, strap wrenches, socket wrenches, stud removal tools, screw and nut drivers, magnetic field detector, circuit tracer, volt/ohm meter, LAN cable meter, wire pulling and marking equipment, conduit benders.
• Misc - Fork lift, pallet jacks, flat cart, dollies, hand truck, ladders, scaffolding, power lift platform.
