The AbbVie Experiential Internship Program

As an AbbVie Experiential Intern, you'll participate in a paid, ten to twelve-week summer program that is focused on providing students with robust projects throughout the summer. As an intern, you will be located at our corporate headquarters in north suburban Chicago, with housing and shuttle services for eligible students.

Department Overview - Regulatory Affairs Submission Management

Regulatory Affairs Submission Management drives integrated planning and execution for all submissions globally through quality-by-design processes. We are the Regulatory product team's definitive source for comprehensive submission planning, enabling execution of quality dossiers, while fostering communication and planning for excellence. We strive to demonstrate collaboration, accountability, transparency, realism, innovation, and agility.

Assignment Details

The Regulatory Operations department at AbbVie, Inc. is offering an opportunity to students to learn about the regulation of healthcare and related products, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biologics and combination products. This internship opportunity will provide the intern with robust projects based on a business need. You'll do meaningful work that has a real impact on our business and patients worldwide. The following are anticipated goals:

  • Intern to identify relevant Code of Federal Regulations (CFR's) and European Directives impacting the department directly, and how they impact the work deliverable.
  • Learn the regulatory submission lifecycle: initiate, plan, execute, monitor & control, and close. Learn to record meeting minutes in all team and stakeholder meetings.
  • Team building, networking activities, and cross-cultural exposure.
  • In the final week of the internship program, the intern must present a poster board presentation or PowerPoint on a pharmaceutical or medical device lifecycle based on an AbbVie products past and current state of submission. The presentation must demonstrate understanding of regulations.


Basic:

  • Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship
  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship
  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Science, IT, Business, or Engineering
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0/4.0
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated).


Preferred:

  • Desire to learn about Regulatory Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Exceptionally demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Research and volunteering experience
