Job Details
These positions are in Purification Development within Preclinical Manufacturing & Process Development in Tarrytown, NY. There are 4 openings for Summer 2020. Each opening is described below.
Position 1:
This student will support the development of operational technologies to improve data flows for Purification Development. The student will work on independent projects to develop data pipelines to capture data from lab equipment and design custom tools to improve data access for end users. The student will learn how to provide context to various data consumers and agile software development practices, as well as gain exposure to technologies that handle process data, such as OSIsoft PI and the Laboratory Information Management System.
Responsibilities:
- Gain exposure to commercial purification process development and gain experience in polishing chromatography, antibody fundamentals, and quality by design.
- Complete independent software application development projects to address data gaps and improve user access to equipment and experimental data.
Positions 2 and 3:
The student will work upon a specific development project that will be attempting to improve our platform process for the purification of monoclonal antibodies. The project will focus upon the initial downstream process steps of cell removal and mAb capture. The project may include building/ refinement of a continuous virus inactivation system.
Position 4:
This student will support daily activities of designing clinical and commercial purification processes for promising antibody treatments in addition to supporting technology development.
Responsibilities:
- Gain experience in operation of membrane unit operations.
- Assist with clinical and commercial purification process development and gain experience in membrane systems, antibody fundamentals, risk management, among others.
- Data mine historical process development studies to identify trends and de-risk factors based historical effect sizes.
- Perform proof of concept studies evaluating feasibility of normal flow filtrations operated in novel configurations.
- Assist in daily lab operation to ensure proper maintenance of equipment and availability of buffers.
- Work under mentorship of a process development engineer.

• Prefer a rising junior or above
• Majoring in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related fields with an interest in the biopharmaceutical industry
• Academic research or industry experience in a laboratory setting for >0.5yrs, pipetting, buffer preparation, good attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple concurrent projects.
• Experience with statistics and/or data mining preferred
Position 1 specifics:
• Must be pursuing a degree in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, data science, or related fields with an interest in the biopharmaceutical industry and computer science or data management
• Experience with functional or object oriented programing (i.e Python, R, Java) and SQL. Academic research or industry experience in a laboratory setting preferred. Familiarity with operation of pilot or benchscale chromatography preferred but not required.
General Intern Program Information:
• Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD
• Summer Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) for at least 10 weeks and is paid
• Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)
• Enjoy weekly 1 hour Intern Program events: learn about other areas of the company from VPs and other employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!
• Present to your team on your summer project
