The R&D Relationship Manager enables science through consultation, strategic planning and tactical oversight of information technology initiatives. The individual will partner with Research & Development , , Specifically in Preclinical Manufacturing and Process Development leadership, serve as the primary point of contact for scientific business teams, identify and translate scientific business needs into strategic roadmaps and executable portfolios of activities that add demonstrable value to the scientific operations of Research & Development at Regeneron.

The R&D Relationship Manager is the liaison between IT and the scientific teams within Research & Development.

The BRM serves as the IT liaison to the assigned function(s), serves as the IT owner of the function's business process, understands and assists with business requirement prioritization, acts as demand manager, supports IT benefits realization efforts, oversees end-to-end project execution, and confirms stakeholder satisfaction.

The individual directs IT strategy in support of the overall business strategy by becoming a trusted advisor to the business unit.


• Identify and capture IT demand from the business function stakeholders while working to prioritize and rationalize demand, and initiate the project charter to gain stakeholder alignment

• Understand business needs and priorities to define the strategy for delivering system's capabilities within a biopharmaceutical research and development organization

• Translate business needs into effective and/or improved processes and/or technical solutions or services by coordinating resources from the associated IT Department(s)

• Assume accountability for developing business cases and realization of project benefits

• Understand the processes, plans, objectives, drivers, and issues related to the business area, together with appropriate external policies and regulations

• Contribute the Systems aspects to business strategy development, bringing business opportunities through technology and business knowledge

• Accountable for ensuring that solutions and services deliver expected business value

• Serve as overall champion to ensure proper business casing and prioritization take place across the portfolio of work/project requests

• Co-own the business processes, with the counterpart in the business function, and manage the
Business Process Model (levels 1-2) in order to identify opportunities, change impacts, and threats

• Assume accountability for all IT resources (internal and external) within the business area

• Coordinate the vendor management for the IT business area function with other IT areas as appropriate and manage vendor contracts and day-to-day operations

• Confirm Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with the business function and ensure agreed services are being delivered to requirements; analyze & monitor the SLA impact for service changes

• Keep abreast of technology trends and applicability to scientific business needs

• Participate in industry peer groups to understand industry trends

• Participate in the IT annual budgeting and planning process for the assigned business units

• Drive selection of non-enterprise systems

• Govern and oversee organizational change management

• Accountable for all IT projects for the assigned business units

• Play the role of the business area function representative and subject matter advisor when required

• Ability to understand, translate and effectively communicate complex scientific business requirements to information technology professionals

• Develop strategic roadmaps for information technology systems that align to business capability enablement or improvement

Preferred Background:

• Experience with preclinical, clinical, or commercial biologics manufacturing

• Familiarity with one or more of the following sytems: OSIsoft PI (or other process Historians), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems, Ladder Logic, LIMS, Lab Execution Systems (LES), workflow management, asset management (Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)), Real Time Planning and Execution System (RPES), SynTQ (Process Analytical Technology (PAT)), Empower (or other Chromatography Data Systems (CDS)), GE Unicorn, ELN, SDMS, JMP (or other modeling or statistical software) and Matlab.

• Familiarity with Cell Culture, Bioreactors, and/or Purification (chromatography, Tangential Flow Filtration, Ultrafiltration Diafiltration), HPLC, UPLC, MCE, and Raman Spectroscopy

• Familiarity with Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Quality by Design (QbD), and/or Continuous Batch Processing

• Familiarity with common infrastructure, networking, observability, and security technologies such as Windows Servers, Amazon Web Services, VMWare, network load balancers, firewalls, New Relic, Splunk, Active Directory, Kerberos, and Secure Socket Layer (SSL).

• Familiarity with change controls, software/system development life cycle (SDLC), Agile practices (Scrum and Kanban), DevOps, and toolsets and platforms such as Atlassian Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Docker.

• Experience with manufacturing systems like Process Historian, Electronic Batch Records, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), SCADA, Process Analytical Technology, etc.

• Experience with optimizing high-throughput plate (HTP)-based assays or experience programming liquid handling instruments and robots

• Understanding of current IT project and software development life cycle processes and methodologies

• Graduate degree in a life science with experience in computer science or information technology, or a degree in Biomedical, Chemical, or BioProcess Engineering

• Knowledge of and/or experience with the Pharmaceutical Drug Discovery process

• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead software development projects

• BS in Engineering or MS in life sciences; PhD preferred

• Experience working in a research environment of a pharmaceutical / biotechnology organization

• Demonstrated knowledge of a research & development organization's core business processes and operations, along with the use of technology to enable science

• Ability to summarize large volumes of information into salient actionable communications

• Proven experience with business and technical requirements analyses, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development

• Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships that supports demand shaping

• Experience managing information technology initiatives

• Demonstrated project portfolio management skills, including project planning, budgeting, and controlling processes, and valuing IT investments

• Understanding of application development and software development life cycle concepts

• Ability to understand and communicate/present detailed and advanced business solutions.

• 10+ years combined experience in science and information technology

• Advanced degree preferred
