Job Responsibilities
  • Complies with safety regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), GLP guidelines, and study protocols; if applicable, drafts or revises SOPs; provides input for revision of safety regulations and study protocols.
  • Performs basic/specialized testing of preclinical animal specimens; processes samples and prepares bone marrow smears; performs data input and proofreading of data listings, tables, and reports for accuracy against source data.
  • Operates, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots routine and specialized analytical instruments and equipment; serves as a principal operator; proactively recognizes analytical problems and takes appropriate action. Tracks equipment maintenance and calibration information; ensures timely performance of maintenance by manufacturers' field service representatives (FSR).
  • Maintains QC systems for analytical instruments and specific assays; monitors internal/ external QC programs; reviews monthly reports and takes appropriate action where needed. Develops QC in-house ranges for new instruments and assays.
  • Reviews and distributes draft/final study protocols to the clinical pathology staff and provides feedback to Investigator. Reviews and evaluates clinical pathology data for validity and GLP requirements; communicates study progress to Supervisor and/or Clinical Pathologist.
  • Investigates, develops, and verifies new assays and procedures to improve laboratory capabilities; assists in evaluation of new analytical instruments for potential purchase; schedules product demonstrations; verifies new analytical instruments.

Minimal knowledge base/skill set requirements
  • B.S./B.A. in Medical Technology or one of life sciences with a minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience in a clinical pathology laboratory.
  • Current MT/CLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent is required.
  • Must have experience with operation of analytical instruments (chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and/or urine analyzers) as well as microscopy of peripheral blood and urine samples; experience with serum chemistry and microscopy of animal samples is preferred.
  • Experience using basic and advanced computer programs and laboratory data collection systems is required.
  • Experience with GLP is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills.
