As part of this new team we are seeking a highly motivated and established cell and gene therapy expert to drive innovation into the next generation cell and gene therapy technology applications. This includes establishing novel approaches and opportunities to drive proof of concept evaluations towards the cutting edge challenges of this evolving field. In addition to your technology scouting and evaluations, the candidate will drive novel technology approaches such as next generation non-viral gene delivery systems and gene modified pluripotent stem cell processing. The candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary collaborative team of data scientists, sensoric experts, and bioprocess / automation engineers.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Lead the research strategy into Cell and Gene Therapy to overcome the challenges and gaps such as lower cost cell therapies for personalized medicine.

  • Identify and establish collaborations with world leading academics and startup companies for cutting edge technology concepts

  • Guide and provide practical support for completion of proof of concept experimental evaluations

  • Drive and support potential prototype technology design

  • Responsible for the technology transfer of promising technology candidates to the Technology Development team.

  • Support the technology roadmap strategy for the future advancement of Cell & Gene Therapy Technologies

  • Drive and influence the bio industry Cell & Gene Therapy community in new challenges such as personalized and lower cost approaches.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • PhD in Immunology, cellular biology, stem cell biology, biomedical engineering or closely related field with experience with biological cellular systems.

  • A post graduate research or industrial research experience > 3 years

  • Have established both a foundationally theoretical and practical competency in either cell or gene therapy that is internationally recognized through publications and presentations.

  • A practical competency in cell or gene therapy technologies such as viral and non-viral delivery systems, viral upstream or purification systems or cellular therapeutic bioprocessing.

  • Desired to have a strong immunological understanding in particularly adaptive immune systems and cell immunological interactions.

  • Preferable to have experience with end to end total bioprocessing for gene and / or cell therapy

  • Preferable cell therapy experience such as in vitro and in vivo T-cell differentiation systems, stem cell (HSC / iPSC / ESC) culture , and T-cell culture

  • Preferable to have experience in cell engineering using viral or non-viral methods, for gene therapy

  • A desire for miniaturization and automation for developing the next generation personalized automated workflows.

  • An understanding and drive to influence the future trends and cell therapy strategy

  • A willingness to learn from other disciplines and industry sectors.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive & influence multidisciplinary teams such as data scientists and bioprocess engineers

  • ​Ability to prioritize tasks and balance individual technical contribution with coordination of fast paced research activities across multiple sites, organizations, and disciplines

  • Requires domestic & some international travel
