The Clinical Research Specialist II will work for Plastic Surgeon-in-Chief Dr. John Meara, a cleft and craniofacial surgeon, to support the Cleft and Craniofacial Center in its innovative research.  The Center is comprised of the Craniofacial Program, the largest of its kind in the United States, which offers specialized multidisciplinary care in rare and complex syndromes and world-renowned expertise in more common craniofacial conditions, and the Cleft Lip and Palate Program, which provides comprehensive family-centered cleft care.  Academic research centers around these diagnoses:  craniosynostosis, encephalocele, and cleft lip and palate, including syndromes associated with these conditions.  Research is often observational and aims to improve clinical care or better understand risks associated with certain conditions or surgical outcomes.  This work benefits patients, clinicians, and researchers alike.
 
Responsibilities will include:

  • Study design
  • Lead recruitment, informed consent, and enrollment of subjects
  • Create data collection instruments
  • Lead primary data collection
  • Review patient medical records for data extraction
  • Data entry, management, cleaning, manipulation, and analysis
  • Create figures and tables for publication
  • Scientific writing 
  • Literature review
  • IRB creation and maintenance
  • Creating and maintaining study documentation
  • Scheduling and leading bi-monthly craniofacial research team meetings
  • Manage sample and data collection for a biorepository
  • Submitting research as abstracts to conferences, and as full manuscripts to journals
  • Creating posters and oral presentations
  • Contributing to grant preparation and writing

To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or Masters of Science and 2 yrs relevant work experience.
  • Proven ability to work independently. 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
