The Senior Associate User Experience Designer applies their experience and knowledge to develop User Experience (UX) research and design deliverables on their own or as part of a UX team. Key work activities typically involve collaborating with internal Amgen team members and/or external vendors, and are generally focused on user research, usability evaluation, heuristic-based UX reviews, UX measurement, and/or providing detailed UX design guidance. The individual in this role will establish and maintain effective work habits, produce high quality UX artifacts and advice, and confidently interact with a variety of internal partners.

The Senior Associate User Experience Designer is a key member of the Amgen UX team, who influences through direct involvement on various internal engagements, so that the products and digital solutions delivered are highly usable. The individual in this role will collaborate with business analyst(s), developer(s), business users, and product owners to fully understand user needs, envision solution options, evaluate designs, recommend specific design improvements, prioritize features, and/or identify future improvements.

Amgen's Information Systems organization has set a strategic goal focused on eliminating "friction" associated with common tools used by Amgen staff. The Senior Associate User Experience Designer will be responsible for strengthening the User Experience team's ability to objectively measure and report on UX-related "friction" and offer specific recommendations to reduce, eliminate, or prevent such "friction".

Areas of responsibility include:
  • Draft usability review plans which outline the general flow, tasks, and facilitator questions to be covered during participant sessions
  • Facilitate one-on-one usability review sessions, document and analyze key insights and observations, and produce a findings and recommendation report
  • Plan and conduct user research to develop personas, journey maps, or other user-focused outputs
  • Conduct comparative design reviews and/or heuristic evaluations, and develop associated findings and recommendations for internal partners
  • Build, review, refine, and deliver conceptual wireframes or prototypes (low-fidelity and/or high-fidelity) to illustrate design options
  • Own and mature the UX team's ability to objectively measure and report on UX-related "friction" and offer specific recommendations to reduce, eliminate, or prevent UX-related "friction"
  • Partner with other members of the UX team to complete complex project engagements
  • Prepare and present materials aimed at educating internal partners on core UX principles, models, techniques, and emerging trends


Basic Qualifications:

Masters Degree

OR

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of directly related experience

OR

Associate's degree and 6 years of directly related experience

OR

High school diploma/GED and 8 years of directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience as a user experience designer or researcher, including a demonstrated ability to conduct user research, facilitate usability reviews, conduct heuristic design reviews, wireframe, and prototype
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a shown ability to craft high-quality outcomes
  • Detailed and analytical with the ability to multi-task and effectively negotiate expectations
  • Desire to work as a member of a UX team and to partner with software engineers, business analysts, and other key partners
  • Creative problem-solver who proposes solid design options rooted in a deep understanding of user needs and context
  • Intellectual curiosity coupled with quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, aimed at advancing effective user-centered solutions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook as well as basic wireframing and/or prototyping tools
  • Possesses a clear grasp of how UX methods align with various software development approaches (including Agile)
  • Ability to envision and produce visual designs (helpful, but not required)
  • Minimal domestic US travel may be required
