Research Scientist, Biology
Wave Life Sciences USA seeks an experienced and highly motivated neuroscientist to join our research team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is an ideal position for an individual with a strong background in pre-clinical drug development who thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced and cross disciplinary biotech environment. The candidate will be responsible for designing, executing and analyzing experiments as a member of teams focusing on advancing therapeutic programs. The candidate will be hands-on and contribute to all levels of in vitro and in vivo research to support the development of optimized nucleic acid therapies for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Prior experience in exploring or utilizing nucleic acids for therapeutic modulation of gene expression is preferred, but not required.
Position Responsibilities:
- Biology lead for CNS drug discovery programs
- Design and execute experiments to support multiple research efforts
- Develop screening assays in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) neurons. This includes development of neuronal differentiation protocols, maintaining current iPSC lines, troubleshooting assays and coordinating laboratory efforts among multiple researchers.
- Present data at internal team meetings
- Mentor and work collaboratively with non-PhD scientists
Education and Experience:
- Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, genetics or molecular/cellular biology or with 3+ years of post-doctoral experience in Neuroscience
- Experience with managing drug-discovery research programs
- Knowledge of antisense, siRNA or related therapeutic approaches
- Expertise in generation, maintenance and differentiation of patient iPSC
- Experience with rodent primary neurons and microglia
- Strong expertise in molecular biology techniques including mRNA and DNA isolation from tissues/cell-lines, mRNA quantitation (qPCR and branched DNA), and protein quantification (Western-blot, ELISA and HTRF assay)
- Expertise with automation and development of plate-based screening methods to support drug discovery efforts
- The candidate must thrive in a fast-pace team environment and possess excellent communication and presentation skill
