Summary:

The senior director, patient advocacy will be responsible for leading the patient advocacy team aligned to teprotumumab, an investigational medicine being evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of people living with thyroid eye disease. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the launch of a new medicine and work with patient advocacy organizations to ensure that patients and caregivers are aware of and empowered by comprehensive disease-state education, awareness and engagement. This role offers leadership opportunities to define the advocacy strategy, develop and engage the team, and oversee all related financial management for the team.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with Horizon's current thyroid eye disease patient advocacy team, build and enhance strategic partnerships with advocacy groups, physicians, and advocacy/disease-oriented organizations at the global, national, state and local level. Develop and implement ally-building strategies related to Horizon's business, pipeline, and policy agenda which includes coordinating, developing, communicating and implementing advocacy strategies, partnerships and programs.
  • Create strategies to partner with global advocates, which includes proactively engaging networks of advocates, identify emerging issues, and effectively communicating Horizon's positions on relevant public health, economic and clinical issues to key stakeholders.
  • Identify current market trends and programming, and propose value added programming within disease state and at times across the Horizon portfolio to advance the company's reputation, reach, impact and value to internal and external rare disease stakeholder community.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Commercial Operations, Brand teams, Regulatory and Medical Affairs, Government and Public Affairs, Managed Care, and Legal and Compliance to define the Patient Advocacy/teprotumumab strategy, advocacy partners, and tactics to help those impacted by Thyroid Eye Disease. Proactively communicate leadership and all cross-functional partners to keep apprised of all developments that impact the organization, and actively seek feedback on strategies and tactics.
  • Represent Horizon and Horizon's public policy objectives and goals in alignment with Communications and Government and Public Affairs, through membership and active participation with key advocacy partners. Work to foster appropriate mission/goal partnerships between advocacy groups (i.e., local/regional groups working more synergistically with national and global groups).
  • Manage the successful and effective implementation of key ally development projects, employing advocacy and grassroots consultants, and local agencies, as needed, to mobilize allies for national and local-based actions.


Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Education: BA/BS degree required. Advanced degree in a related field preferred (i.e. MPH).
  • 10+ years of previous pharmaceutical/biotech experience, rare disease experience a plus.
  • Experience in healthcare policy is beneficial
  • 10+ years experience working with key opinion leaders and/or patient/caregiver advocacy preferred
  • 5 years experience working in a commercial environment preferred
  • Experience working with vision advocacy organizations, Graves Disease, Autoimmune Diseases or Infusion, a plus.
  • Experience working with multiple projects, priorities and managing multiple internal and external partners.
  • Must have strong planning, project management, communication, and organization skills. Flexibility to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment with multiple demands with initiative and independence required.
  • Team and cross functional orientation a must.
  • Ability to travel extensively (50% plus)
