Associate Scientist - AMA PKDM

Amgen is seeking a bio-analytical scientist to join the Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism (PKDM) department at our Cambridge site in Massachusetts.

In this role you will contribute to Amgen's discovery and development portfolio with a major focus on small molecule quantitative bio-analysis by LC/MS/MS. These bio-analytical supports are a critical component of all pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic investigations as well as in vitro assessments of the ADME properties of small molecule drug candidates and bio-markers placing this role at the center of Amgen's drug discovery engine.

In addition, this position will be involved in developing innovative assays to meet the needs of Amgen's multimodality discovery and development portfolio contributing to the mechanistic insights of distribution, clearance pathways and target engagement with an emphasis on Neuroscience and small molecule therapeutics. You will work directly with other PKDM stakeholders at other Amgen research sites to influence drug discovery direction through bio-analysis

In this position the core responsibilities are to:
  • Conduct PK and bio-marker bio-analyses of in vitro and in vivo samples for project teams with strong emphasis on quality, robustness and speed.
  • Develop, optimize and troubleshoot LC/MS/MS based assays. Analysis, interpretation, and communication of study results
  • Work closely with PKDM team members, effectively communicate with project team representatives and actively participate/collaborate cross site and cross functionally.
  • Provide expertise in LC/MS applied to bio-therapeutic and bio-marker analysis.
  • Implement new assays, techniques, improve processes and evaluate new technologies/instrumentation including automation procedures to improve efficiency

In addition to the core responsibilities, this role also allows the individual to write scientific reports, author scientific papers and present at scientific meetings where appropriate. A collaborative and highly capable scientific cross-site community at Amgen is available to support these efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree and 3 years of Scientific experience
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors in a pharmaceutical science, analytical chemistry or equivalent field of study.

Effective oral and written communication skills.
3+ years of drug discovery experience.

Basic understanding of ADME science and hand-on experience with bio-sample handing and quantitative LC/MS/MS assay.

Critical thinking and demonstrated ability to communicate with team members across broad disciplines.
