Job Details

The Senior Scientist, Multi-Crop Transformation, is responsible for developing, refining and executing approaches to transform and regenerate multiple crops of global relevance. This position will serve as the subject matter expert for all tissue culture, transformation and regeneration technologies as well as downstream propagation and characterization of edited events. This position is expected to interact with all internal teams and external collaborators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • The position is responsible for identification, validation, optimization and adoption of current and emerging gene delivery systems, plant tissue culture protocols and plant regeneration and propagation to support company and partner initiatives in multiple crops
  • Hands-on management and supervision of the transformation facility and staff, including protocol development, SOPs, quality control, data archival, analysis of results and troubleshooting is expected
  • Provides intellectual leadership to the scientific staff and serves as a mentor to those engaged in similar activities within the organization
  • In this leadership role, the senior scientist implements and tracks progress of his/her area using industry validated metrics and hold the team to the highest standards of scientific integrity and technical skills
  • Works closely with both internal teams and external collaborators to build state-of-the-art organizational capabilities through his/her experience and professional network
  • Demonstrates accountability, responsibility and integrity in every aspect of professional life at Elo Life Systems, while upholding Company values
  • Serves as a technical expert and serve as an effective communicator of scientific research to broad audiences and senior management
  • Assist with business development efforts, including strategic planning and interactions with commercial partners as needed
  • Represent Elo in professional forums and conferences; deliver technical presentations internally or at technical meetings as requested by the company

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience
  • Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent in plant biology, horticulture or a related field; 15+ years technical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of experience in a hand-on tissue culture/crop transformation setting
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and transform multiple crops of global relevance through designing creative technical solutions
  • Experience in protoplast regeneration
  • Ability to create and implement high quality innovative concepts for R&D development and execution
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills

Travel Requirements
  • Little or no travel is required for this position
  • On occasion, the Senior Scientist will be expected to travel to conferences, workshops and or business meetings as needed.
