We are seeking a motivated and independent protein biochemistry Research Assistant to support the development of point-of-care molecular diagnostic kits in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will support the manufacturing of point-of-care molecular diagnostic kits and associated enzymes. This position is part of the protein production group and is responsible for producing protein expression in prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression systems and production of high purity protein reagents using techniques such as affinity and ion exchange chromatography. Attention to detail and the ability to follow SOP's and write batch records and reports are critical for this position. A demonstrated ability in protein biochemistry and molecular biology expertise and experience with expression of recombinant proteins in multiple different expression systems, and experience with protein purification in manufacturing setting is desired.
Skills:
- Understand technical concepts of Molecular biology and Protein biochemistry.
- Good laboratory skills including SDS-PAGE gel running.
- Hands-on experience with recombinant protein expression and purification in multiple different expression systems.
- Familiarity with AKTA purification systems will be a plus.
- Comfortable with report generation, data analysis and presentation, including Microsoft Excel data entry and analysis
- Have good presentation skills, strong writing skills, and able to maintain a laboratory notebook. Be able to work with internal and external team members.
- Able to solve problems of a complex nature.
- Effectively communicate results and development updates to management through meetings and reports.
Duties:
- Protein expression in bacterial and possible insect cell and mammalian expression systems.
- Production of high purity protein reagents using techniques such as affinity and ion exchange chromatography.
- Develop and test enzymatic activity to meet specifications.
- Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), manufacturing instructions, quality control test methods, and experience with document control procedures
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
- Completed BSL-2 training
- Work within an integrated multidisciplinary laboratory and be able to work with other scientists, technicians, engineers and students in the team.
- Interact and work effectively with a demanding, fast-paced biotech startup environment
