Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced research associate to join the Muscle and Metabolism Group to support our discovery and development efforts pertaining to liver-related metabolic diseases. The individual will be responsible for the execution of in vitro and in vivo biological experiments necessary to develop cell-based and animal models for testing of experimental therapeutics and for mechanistic biology studies. The ideal candidate will have in-depth in vitro or in vivo technical expertise, be hardworking, flexible, innovative and able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment. They will also have excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team.

Responsibilities:

• Strong in vitro and in vivo technical expertise is required. The ideal candidate will have expertise spanning both in vitro and in vivo techniques.

• In vitro technical expertise including, but not limited to:

Tissue culture, transfection, FACS, and in vitro cell-based assay development

Western blotting, chromatography, immunoprecipitation, and ELISA development

• Molecular biology including molecular cloning, mutagenesis, DNA/RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, CRISPR

immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence staining and in situ hybridization

bright-field, fluorescent, and confocal microscopy and respective image analyses

In vivo technical expertise including, but not limited to:

• Mouse handling, injections (IP, SC, IV), bleeds (tail vein, retro-orbital, submandibular)

oral and IP tolerance tests (glucose, insulin, lipid)

• minor survival surgeries (ie osmotic pump implantation)

major survival surgery experience is an asset

• The candidate will also perform relevant data analysis and interpretation, collate data for presentation or reporting, and present data at group meetings.

• The candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate and complete laboratory records.

Requirements:

• BS/MS + 2+ years' experience

• Strong in vitro and in vivo technical expertise is required. The ideal candidate will have expertise spanning both in vitro and in vivo techniques.

• Proficiency in software for data analysis (e.g., DNA sequence alignment, Excel, Prism, FlowJo) and data reporting/presentation (e.g., Word, PowerPoint).

• Ability to multi-task and perform work with a high degree of attention to detail.

• Ability to troubleshoot and intepretate data independently.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate productively with different functional groups.

• Strong organizational and timely record-keeping skills.
