Amgen is seeking a Senior Associate System Administrator UNIX Administrator who will support Infrastructure Operations having primary responsibility for all activities related to UNIX administration in a 24x7 on-call regulated environment. The Senior Assoc. System UNIX Admin will support Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu, and other new UNIX related technologies in the Amgen environment.

The Senior Associate System UNIX Admin will be reporting to the Senior Manager Information Systems at Amgen's Capability Center in Tampa, FL. At Amgen, our mission is simple: to serve patients. The Infrastructure Operations team is the global enterprise administration group that manages physical and virtual hosting including private and public cloud hosting options, operating systems, databases, middleware, storage, and backup. The primary UNIX platform supported by this group is Linux with a smaller footprint of Solaris Operating System.

Key Activities of the Senior Associate System UNIX Admin include:
  • Supports the Service Owner, full time employees, and managed service provider in the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the technology service
  • Ensures service is aligned with the key principles of service ownership which includes: meeting the needs of the business, cost effectiveness, scalability, compliance, reliability, and resilience
  • Manages and administers UNIX Systems, and related services and monitoring systems
  • Contributes to the development of the architecture roadmap for Linux and Solaris and develop technical standards and policies
  • Contributes to projects from a technical aspect and provide guidance and direction to less experienced technical staff and Managed Service Providers including installations and upgrades of Operating System, troubleshooting, patching, and system management
  • Monitors security bulletins to obtain information of potential threats; analyze and lead necessary security patch implementations to ensure ongoing system security
  • Implements server automation solutions and enterprise-wide scripts using tools such as Ansible
  • Provides performance analysis and tunes systems while utilizing software and hardware tools to identify, analyze, and diagnose complex problems and factors affecting performance
  • Investigates and resolve server related technical issues providing rotational 24x7 On-Call Support at the SME level and assist/lead Root Cause Analysis reviews
  • Participates in audit and security compliance activities (Amgen and government regulations) related to Unix platforms


Basic Qualifications

Masters Degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Information Systems and/or UNIX Administration experience

OR

Associate's degree and 6 years of Information Systems and/or UNIX Administration experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Information Systems and/or UNIX Administration experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry Certifications and experience with Red Hat Linux, Ubuntu and other Linux Flavors
  • Experience with clustering systems including Veritas and Red Hat Clustering
  • Scripting knowledge including the use of Shell Scripting, Python, PHP, Pearl or others
  • Knowledge of software development techniques such as source code management, unit and system testing, and documentation
  • Knowledge of Automation/Configuration Management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Landscape and Satellite
  • ITIL experience with Incident, Change, Problem and release management
  • Managing systems in a regulated environments such as in the Pharma, healthcare or financial services industries
  • Proven experience managing and administering Unix Systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of operating system, network tools, and monitoring systems for troubleshooting performance issues
  • Demonstrated working knowledge on NAS/SAN storage, Clustering, and HA configurations
  • Demonstrated data-driven problem solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated previous experience as part of a high performance team
  • Demonstrated skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues
  • Knowledge of other Infrastructure Services, such as storage, databases, virtualization, and Windows a plus
