Position Summary:

The Associate Director,Market Intelligence and Forecasting is a trusted strategic member of the Horizon Therapeutics Commercial Development organization, proactively identifying critical business questions and guiding pipeline commercial strategy through the use of primary and secondary market research data and innovative commercial modeling. The Associate Director reports directly to the Vice President, Commercial Development.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will:
  • Serve as the primary market intelligence and forecasting lead for the commercial development team.
  • Provide market analysis and strategic business insights into pipeline portfolio optimization and business development commercial evaluations
  • Develop and model commercial forecasts / evaluations for pipeline portfolio stage-gate decisions and in-licensing go / no-go decisions to incorporate the following:
    • Knowledge of Rheumatology, Ophthalmology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Rare Disease, and/or other specialty therapeutic areas
    • Current and future competitive landscapes
    • Physician, payer, and patient market research surrounding unmet needs, target product profiles and market share expectations
    • Target pricing (US and Ex-US) including gross to net impacts
    • Promotion and sales force requirements
  • Participate in regularly occurring meetings with commercial development, business development, and clinical development to stay abreast of current pipeline and licensing objectives, strategies, tactics as well as opportunities and challenges in the marketplace.
  • Participate in the framing of business questions, identification of information needs and development of research projects and data analysis plans. Independently manage the research process to deliver objective, in-depth understanding of issues and propose value-added solutions to stakeholders.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage budgets for their primary market research projects.
  • Add depth to insights by developing a thorough understanding of all key commercial dynamics, including the disease state, market landscape, product attributes, unmet needs, payer influence and key prescribers
  • Support the planning process in developing market-based, situation analyses that serve as foundational element to yearly brand-planning processes, identify issues/opportunities and associated strategies/actions to address by partnering with relevant brand teams and business units.
  • Recommend and leverage strong market research vendors, while remaining accountable for the design, execution, synthesis and read out of all market research projects, maintaining a visible role in the final delivery of insights.
  • Keep abreast of market research & industry developments and incorporate applicable elements into research design and / or insights.
  • Integrate insights across all available data elements, combining primary research results with support from secondary data, syndicated research and internal data.
  • Earn the position as a respected internal consultant and partner, across Business Development, Clinical Development, Sales, Marketing, Managed Markets, Finance, Regulatory and Medical Affairs, etc. to ensure effective cross-functional communication and alignment on insights.
  • Contribute to the development of internal Horizon market research and forecasting policies, guidelines, and best practices; including training on these policies.
  • Mentor and train others on best-practices in forecasting and market research


Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • BA/BS required, MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical market intelligence and/or forecasting experience
  • Proven ability to develop customized and innovative qualitative and quantitative market research approaches & methodologies aligned to the business question at hand, leveraging third-party vendors yet being accountable to the synthesis and delivery of the resulting insights.
  • Extensive knowledge of primary market research methodologies, including; Licensing and Pipeline Management ("go/no go" decisions), Lifecycle Management, Patient Journeys, Target Product Profile Assessments, Market Landscape Assessment, Segmentation and Positioning, Quantitative Conjoint Studies, Messaging Evaluation, Pricing and Forecasting, Brand Tracking (ATU), etc.
  • Strong awareness and application of relevant Pharmaceutical Market Research compliance guidelines and codes of conduct (e.g., CASRO, HIPAA, Sunshine Act), protecting the company from liability.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically, identify key issues, opportunities, and value drivers, and effectively translate strategic insights into an appropriate framework to drive business decisions.
  • Ability to make quick decisions, with confidence, in potentially stressful situations
  • Strong ability to effectively analyze/interpret market research data to identify risks to the company.
  • Proficient in the use and interpretation of secondary pharmaceutical data including physician and claims-level data sets as well as the various prescription audits (including IMS and SHA).
  • Ability to work independently while leveraging effective time management skills
  • Desire and ability to travel, generally required when attending research in person, marketing work sessions, or national sales meetings (up to ~20% travel)
