Summary

The RDSP Business Operations Lead reports to the Head, R&D Operations and leads business operations for RDSP organization. In this capacity, the role partners closely with the Head of R&D Operations to provide operational and planning support to the Heads of R&D.

Core responsibilities of this role include: shaping & executing RDSP strategy and objectives, leading strategic initiatives, driving business operations excellence, enhancing cross-team knowledge sharing, and fostering employee engagement. The role is part of the R&D Strategy and Planning organization, which is accountable for R&D business strategy and operations, drug development project & portfolio management, operational excellence, business continuity, and R&D learning.

The RDSP Business Operations Lead will also work closely with enterprise business partners (Finance, HR, IT, Corporate Affairs, others) to deliver integrated solutions while ensuring ongoing organizational alignment. As such, it is critical that the candidate effectively collaborate with and engage a matrixed team of global professionals.

Core Responsibilities

Providing operational and planning support to Heads of R&D

Managing pipeline information and reporting (e.g., earnings releases, 10Q/10K, etc.), Board of Directors updates

Reporting significant pipeline events bi-weekly for board updates, quarterly for financial disclosure (e.g., earnings releases, 10Q/10K, etc.) and for Board of Directors meetings

Partnering with enterprise business partners to plan and implement internal and external engagement opportunities - inclusive of R&D TownHalls, R&D Awards, R&D Senior Leader meetings etc.

Participating in oversight of charitable giving processes across R&D

Managing RDSP headcount management and space planning processes, and ensuring adequate resourcing or prioritization occurs to ensure sustainable delivery

Partnering with Finance and RDSP Leaders to ensure budget processes and targets are met

With business partners, assessing RDSP business performance; including: Achievement of strategy, objectives, and critical initiatives, Operational delivery, Stakeholder satisfaction, Culture and employee engagement

Requirements:
  • Undergraduate (BA/BS) degree required; advanced scientific degree or MBA preferred
  • 7 years of professional experience in the life sciences or biopharmaceutical industry
  • Business operations experience and familiarity with divisional management preferred
  • Demonstrated strength in partnering with business leaders to assess critical needs and performance, developing and effectively managing plans and initiatives, and delivering business outcomes
  • Comfort in agile work environment and capable of bringing structure to vaguely defined problems while using creative yet pragmatic problem-solving approaches
  • Proactive, organized, and promoter of diversity and inclusivity
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; strong change & stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to build relationships and influence, and drive organizational engagement across functions and sites
