Kite Pharma is revolutionizing the treatment of cancer through innovative cell enhancement. We are seeking a Bioinformatics scientist to join Kite Emeryville research informatics team to support a diverse team of scientists including: immunologists, synthetic and molecular biologists and other specialists to advance cell therapy research.

Job Description:

• Collaborate with scientists and research associates at all levels of R&D, supporting experimental design, data analysis, data interpretation and troubleshooting

• Develop and maintain bioinformatics infrastructure to support Kite basic research programs

• Engage in novel pipeline and algorithm development for NGS sequence analysis

• Engage in implementing best practices in analyzing in-house generated datasets

• Mine publicly available data to generate hypothesis regarding T-cell biology and cancer biology

• Present results in internal and external meetings

• Keep abreast of best practices and methods in the field

Competencies and Skills:

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related fields

• 0-2+ years of industry experience

• Have a strong understanding of molecular and cellular biology

• Strong understanding of statistics and ability to generate robust statistical models for predicting outcomes in multidimensional data

• Experience with cloud computing infrastructure, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Unix/Linux environments

• Expertise with bioinformatics tools, data QC, and statistical methods

• Proficiency building and maintaining large NGS based datasets, including familiarity with relational databases and statistical programming (languages and packages such as SQL, Python, R, Bioconductor, Shiny, and Pandas)

• Familiarity of publicly available genomic databases such as: dbGAP, Genbank, ENSEMBL

• Be a strong team player in a growing organization

• Ability to work independently, strong troubleshooting skills and come up with creative solutions to non-conventional problems

• Bring scientific rigor and integrity to immediately impact the delivery of breakthrough products to patients

• Experience with cancer, biology, immunology and/or industrial bioinformatics is preferred
