Job Details

The Director of Patient Advocacy, Rare Diseases reports to the Vice President of North American Communications and Patient Advocacy and is responsible for developing the vision and roadmap for patient advocacy across our Rare Diseases franchise. A specific focus will be on building relationships and expanding partnerships with key advocacy organizations across Ipsen's Rare Diseases franchise. This is a hands-on, external-facing role involving relationship-building with organizations that provide value to patients.

As a leader on the North American Communications and Patient Advocacy team, this person drives the internal and external awareness of the Ipsen patient-centric mission, liaises with a cross-functional group of colleagues and builds upon a robust engagement program with Advocacy Group leadership and Ipsen leadership.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Builds a comprehensive, transformational engagement plan for Ipsen US and Canadian rare disease patient advocacy that demonstrates Ipsen's commitment to and understanding of rare and ultra-rare disease patients and their patient journeys, their families and the greater rare/ultra-rare community.
  • Manages collaborations and innovative programs with third-party organizations/patient community for Ipsen North America and its entities.
  • Partners with medical, marketing, legal and other internal stakeholders to develop an Ipsen Rare Disease advocacy plan that drives activation of advocacy organizations by gaining an in-depth understanding of patients' needs and where Ipsen may provide solutions and services to support them
  • Through dialogue and partnerships with patient advocacy organizations, engages with key stakeholders to benefit patients, maps and builds strong, compliant, and trustful relationships with patient community and relevant stakeholders
  • Works with the patient community to understand the challenges they have when living with that condition and their request for more impactful treatments
  • Evaluates sponsorship requests and manages review, approval and on-going engagement with rare disease advocacy organizations on Ipsen visibility and presence per sponsorship request. Ensures feedback loop to evaluate impact on patients
  • Manages budget and directs advocacy-related requests for funding (charitable donations, sponsorships, fundraiser and disease awareness events), providing recommendations to the review committee
  • Works as a senior leader on the communications team to bring appropriate messages into this process and help raise awareness of Ipsen's strong commitment to patients and their caregivers
  • Acts as a liaison with Global Chief Patient Affairs Officer to ensure alignment with global strategy
  • Embraces ownership of relationships with outside organizations, liaising with medical and commercial
  • Ensures that all programs are aligned to strategic imperatives and patients' needs
  • Represents Ipsen with external advocacy stakeholders and builds/maintains its corporate reputation with the utmost care for integrity in all actions
  • Position includes approximately 30% travel, with potential for international travel
