Amgen is seeking a Principal Scientific Analyst to join the multi-site Research & Medical Informatics (R & MI) organization. In this role, you will report to the Director, R & MI and will be part of the team which plays a critical role in advancing early pipeline by providing innovative technology and data solutions for Discovery Research, Non-Clinical Safety Assessment (Discovery Toxicology), and Early Development.

The R & MI team partners with Research teams globally to develop innovative IS and Data Science solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen's pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic, technical and project leadership to R & MI teams
  • Partners and guides the key scientific researchers to translate scientific needs into informatics strategies and solutions
  • Develops and leads a high-performance team; experience not limited to operational management but include ability to act as leader to oversee and motivate the team
  • Leads productive multi-disciplinary product teams that include Project Managers, other Business Analysts, Software Architects, Software Engineers, Vendors, Data Scientists and Computational Chemists and Biologists
  • Elicits IS requirements in working with various scientific teams, developing compelling business cases for IS investments, and leading IS implementation projects to deliver value for the R&D organization globally
  • Provides critical thinking and strategic direction to resolve significant technical and analytic challenges in support of research initiatives across domains of medicinal chemistry, biologics engineering, screening technologies and state of the art discovery technologies
  • Provides leadership on building and deploying regulated systems and processes for pre-clinical studies

 


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

Master's degree and 6 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

Associate's degree and 10 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

And

2 years of experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

  • Deep understanding of scientific and business processes, technologies and issues in Toxicology, Pharmacokinetics & Drug Metabolism
  • 5+ years of leading teams in Biotech/Pharma Research in partnership with Research scientific colleagues, understand how to effectively collaborate in a matrixed organization
  • Working knowledge of biotech/pharma industry regulations
  • Ability to negotiate software requirements within and across business unit as well as the ability to translate requirements into implementable informatics and IS solutions
  • Doctorate degree or Master's degree in Chemical, Biological or Computer Sciences
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with scientific domain expertise to communicate effectively with scientific partners, IS Executive leadership, and develop Informatics strategies
  • High learning agility, innovation, and analytical skills
  • Proven Project/Program Management experience
  • Experience delivering creative IS solutions in a Biotech/Pharma Research setting with solutions that employ DevOps methodology
  • Experience supporting and building solutions that are deployed in Cloud (e.g., AWS) environments
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; be able to effectively promote and negotiate business cases or ideas; influence partners using data and insights.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
