Amgen is seeking a Corporate Affairs Manager - Integrated Communications to be based at our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Manager will report directly to the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs - Global Commercial Operations (GCO).

Consistent with the vision of Amgen Corporate Affairs to "proactively shape, drive and enhance the Amgen brand and reputation globally," the Manager is responsible for facilitation and implementation of the communications strategies and processes to help achieve Amgen's business objectives across priority brands, therapeutic areas and initiatives within its global commercial business.

Key Responsibilities of the Corporate Affairs Manager - Integrated Communications will include:
  • Works closely with Global Commercial Operations communications team to manage high quality, integrated, cross-therapeutic area timelines/plans
  • Provides cross-functional leadership by partnering with key stakeholder functions and through effective team management. Facilitate team meetings and key communications in accordance to established processes; identify and implement process improvements where appropriate
  • Provides communications support for current and future Amgen-driven commercial initiatives, including disease state education initiatives and product launches, being conducted in key regions and countries around the world
  • Coordinates with Amgen site and/or affiliate communicators (as appropriate) to advance external engagement, product and therapeutic area communications efforts
  • Develops and deploys communication mechanisms to help ensure awareness of global communicators' activities, including creating materials and updates for senior leadership
  • Anticipates and appropriately escalates issues that arise that may impact Amgen's brands or initiatives through cross-functional coordination and counsel to business and engagement with key stakeholders
  • Develops messaging and media materials (talking points, media statements/releases, fact sheets, Q&As); follows process for review and approval that ensures message buy-in from related parties and executive leadership with an emphasis in reaching key audiences, including patients
  • Manages and/or provides strategic recommendations around proactive and reactive traditional and social media interactions and/or initiatives that support Amgen's business objectives, brand and reputation
  • Works in partnership with internal and enterprise communications teams to ensure an integrated approach on delivery of priority communications initiatives
  • Prepare metrics and document ongoing project progress and activity (status slides/dashboards)
  • Willingness to travel 4+ times a year (both internationally and/or domestically)

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Master's degree and 2 years of Journalism and/or Public Relations and/or Communications and/or Political Science experience


Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Journalism and/or Public Relations and/or Communications and/or Political Science experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of Journalism and/or Public Relations and/or Communications and/or Political Science experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Journalism and/or Public Relations and/or Communications and/or Political Science experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of related experience in Public Relations and/or Public Affairs
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device or related healthcare public relations/affairs experience (in a corporate, PR agency or government environment is preferred)
  • 2+ years' experience working within a regulated industry
  • Issues and/or crisis management experience is highly desirable
  • Possess a natural curiosity for and proven track record in delivering innovative, state-of-the-art communications approaches that drive targeted and high-impact results among audiences
  • Strong collaborator; ability to coordinate with different functions and staff in the company and outside vendors to achieve communications and business objectives
  • Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong facilitation and group process experience
  • Ability to navigate a challenging and dynamic environment productively
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to deal with rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management, staff and vendors
