Amgen is seeking a Corporate Affairs Senior Manager - Lead Brand Journalist to be based at our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Senior Manager will report directly to the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs - Content Strategy & Social Media.

Consistent with the vision of Amgen Corporate Affairs to "proactively shape, drive and enhance the Amgen brand and reputation globally," the Senior Manager is responsible for developing high quality magazine-style editorial content in the journalistic tradition to enhance Amgen's reputation and support business objectives by shaping the editorial style of the Amgen brand that can be translated across various channels and forms of writing.

Key responsibilities of the Corporate Affairs Senior Manager - Lead Brand Journalist will include:
  • Actively creates high quality, feature length editorial content comparable to a premier journalist to be published on digital channels
  • Shapes editorial style of Amgen brand
  • Handles manager-level brand journalist in effort to create consistent style
  • Seeks out and explores compelling brand stories developed through years of experience successfully pitching and writing feature stories as a journalist
  • Translates complex strategy and science into top quality editorial stories
  • Writes collateral material built from core brand narrative

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience


Master's degree and 4 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience


Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Journalism and/or Communications experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years experience at a nationally or internationally recognized newspaper or magazine as a journalist writing feature length articles and content
  • BA or Masters Degree in Journalism, Fine Arts, English or related area
  • 2+ years healthcare experience
  • Extensive experience interviewing executives and technical authorities, and writing different types of editorial: Q&A, profiles, trend stories, news, articles
  • Operates in a way that is science-based, using data to inform content development
  • Models ethical behavior to teams and colleagues in the production and development of external and internal content
  • Held accountable for delivering results rapidly while ensuring quality
  • Ability to work as part of an editorial team of content creators
  • Harnesses a sophisticated writing style capable of shaping and writing the service of the Amgen brand in an editorial capacity
  • Experience coaching and developing writers
  • Capable of working with multiple partners to passionately simplify and optimize complex systems and structures
  • Handles pressure and demands from multiple internal clients with contending priorities
  • Acts quickly with daily or weekly content creation and publishing
