Job Details
The Research Scientist (B.S./M.S. level) will join the Immunosciences Discovery group at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Lawrenceville, NJ and aide in the advancement of early stage therapeutic targets. The position will conduct cellular immunology assays and utilize cellular, biological, biochemical and immunological techniques to validate novel targets in autoimmunity. This position will support Immunosciences Discovery efforts using peripheral and tissue derived primary cells in ex vivo and in vitro immunological functional assays, using T cells, myeloid cells, B cells and other cell types. The position will require the individual to be collaborative across other functional groups within the Discovery Research organization. Meticulous record keeping, and excellent understanding in immunology and related assays are must have requirements. Independent research activities and communication with project teams is expected in this role.
Responsibilities
Strong experience with primary human and mouse immune cell isolation/propagation and immune cell-based functional assays is required (e.g. T cells, B cells, myeloid cells, co-culture assays and other primary cell assays)
Hands on experience with a wide range of in-vitro cellular and biochemical assays, including immune cell culture, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, ELISAs (MSD), reporter assays is required, siRNA/shRNA knockdown is desired;
Measurement of cell surface receptors and proteins by multicolor FACS across different platforms is required
Expertise with analysis of biological results, interpretation and presentation of the data in a group, project teams and departmental presentation settings.
Although the scientist will work closely with the manager, they will be responsible for independent research activities and communication with the project teams
Qualifications
The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 5 years of experience, (in academic, biotech or pharma industry) within the immunology area
Extensive experience in human and murine cellular immunology assays using primary and expanded immune cells
Experience in analysis of proteins and cytokines by single and multiplex platforms mentioned in the job description
Experience in flow cytometry analysis of cells as well as experience in, or willingness to learn other flow cytometry based platforms.
The ability to independently design and conduct experiments, including trouble-shooting outcomes and adaptively designing follow-on experiments with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in data analysis and presentation tools, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills in order to provide frequent feedback to supervisor and make presentations of progress to research teams.
Proficiency in utilizing software such as Graph Pad, Microsoft office etc. for data analysis and figure generation is required.
Possess a high level of critical thinking, high energy, independence, a strong desire to learn new areas, and the ability to work in a highly dynamic, transparent, research organization;
The individual should be organized and be comfortable working independently as well as in a group setting, preparing summary presentations, and participating in project meetings/discussions as required.
