Position Overview

Designs, implements and analyzes in-vivo and in-vitro pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism studies working with clinical pharmacology, drug metabolism, and various therapeutics areas.


The non-clinical PK department within Nektar Therapeutics is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Scientist. The successful candidate will participate in the design and conduct of experiments in biological systems to characterize and validate drug disposition and test efficacy of potential therapeutics to prioritize them for further development in a variety of disease areas. This individual must be an expert in relevant experimental ADME techniques, possibly including molecular biology techniques, in vitro binding, biochemical and cell-based assays, cell culture, pharmacologic dosing, disease model testing, PK and metabolism methodologies. S/he will analyze, interpret, summarize and present PK/ADME/PKPD data to project team and senior management and may write, edit, and finalize appropriate sections of regulatory filings. This position contributes to and supports the company's research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.


  • Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Exercises judgement within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Executes on technical experiments following appropriate laboratory/technical procedures.
  • Determines and develops methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Designs appropriate ADME/PK/PKPD studies.
  • Analyzes and interprets PK, ADME and PKPD results and makes recommendations to teams and senior management.
  • Applies appropriate platforms and strategies such as physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling and simulation, Non-Compartmental and Compartmental PK simulation.
  • Write, edit, and finalize technical reports supporting regulatory filings
  • Interfaces with various departments, customers and partners.
  • Plans and coordinates activities with other team members.
  • May independently represent the Company to outside organizations.
  • May assist with designing and implementing organizational processes, budgetary and capital equipment requirements, and identifies needs for additional resources.
  • Synthesizes multiple data sources and draws general, non-obvious conclusions.

  • A PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences is required. Equivalent experience may be accepted.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant work experience in industry, regulatory and/or related post-doctoral work is required.
  • Exceptional non-PhDs with demonstrated capabilities and/or significant experience may also be considered.
  • Must be able to demonstrate significant success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.
  • Must be current and active in field, while able to demonstrate expert knowledge in scientific principles and concepts both internally and externally with sustained performance and accomplishment.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate scientific information both written and oral.
  • Must have published ADME/PK/PKPD related studies.
  • Must possess good oral, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate problem solving capabilities.
  • Good computer skills are required. Working knowledge of MS word, Excel and Power point
  • Must be willing to work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
