We are seeking a self-motivated and ambitious individual with strong work ethic and leadership qualities to join our personalized neoantigen TCR development research program as a Principal Scientist in TCR Assay Development at our new research and clinical production facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The facility is being developed as a Center of Excellence for the advancement of novel TCR mediated T cell therapies targeting tumor mutations and antigens.

Reporting to the Gaithersburg Head of Research, you will lead all aspects of the TCR Assay Development Team consisting of (Senior) Scientists and Research Associates in establishing and developing high-throughput neoantigen TCR screening and characterization platforms for selection of neoantigen-targeted TCRs for clinical pursuit. In addition, the individual will lead efforts to investigate TCR engineering strategies to enhance the therapeutic potency of gene engineered T cells and improve the quality of generated T cell products. A demonstrated ability to synthesize scientific questions into a coherent research effort and communicate scientific findings cross-functionally is required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serve as the group lead for the development and delivery of immunological assays and platforms involving non-clinical evaluation of TCR candidates targeting neoantigens
  • Design of research projects and supervision of the research team including, but not limited to, organizing and prioritizing projects according to timelines and tracking the progress towards deliverables
  • Work closely with other research teams and cross-functional teams to jointly advance the development of neoantigen TCR discovery platform
  • Spearhead evaluation and development of innovative methodologies and technologies for improving and standardizing efficient identification and characterization of neoantigen-specific TCRs
  • Serve as a liaison in technology transfer efforts from external partners in academia and industry, as well as from internal Research Department into Process Development
  • Contribute to company-wide and external scientific discussions on technology evaluation

Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Biomedical Sciences or a closely related field with demonstrated experience in cell therapy, immunology, cancer biology or a closely-related field and 5+ years of post-graduate academic or industry experience

  • Strong leadership, personal accountability and interpersonal skills, and capability for mentoring (direct reports and others)
  • Advanced knowledge in the area of T cell engineering and biology of tumor antigens is highly preferred
  • Previous hands-on experience in functional T cell assays (e.g. multiplexed immunoassays (e.g. ELISA, ELISPOT, MSD), flow cytometry, viral-vector based introduction of TCRs into T cells, transfection or electroporation of DNA/RNA is critical
  • Experience in high-throughput immunological screening technologies is highly desired, knowledge and/or experience of single-cell TCR sequencing technologies is an advantage
  • Ability to translate scientific ideas into comprehensive experiments and projects aiming to develop broadly applicable, industrial-scale T cell therapies
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and able to adapt to changing priorities
