Job Details

A logistics engineer uses science and mathematics to ensure that AbbVie products are being distributed in a way that is most efficient and profitable. The logistics engineer is responsible for handling inventory, design order management solutions, plan warehouse layouts and help design product packaging/shipping solutions to maximize shipping efficiency. In general, this position uses knowledge of science and math to construct the most streamlined, efficient method of product distribution possible. This position will also be responsible for product return activities associated with identifying key areas for improvement and working with others to resolve issues while continuously improving processes.

  • Lead Warehousing optimization activities while developing and/or maintain cost estimates, forecasts, predictive simulations or cost models
  • Evaluate the use of technologies such as radio-frequency identification (RFID), pick/put automation, robotics, metered distribution or others to optimize efficiencies while increasing quality reliability using Kaizen, JDI or other process improvement techniques
  • Responsible for creating, reporting, presenting, and maintaining U.S. logistics metrics
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for system and operational improvements within the U.S. Logistics network through trend analysis
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining metric job aids
  • Responsible for preparing and presenting KPIs at U.S. commercial affiliate business reviews
  • Support global initiatives centered on metric creation and reporting
  • Liaison between Third Party Return vendor, Receivables Management, Pricing, and Customer Service on high level issue resolution
  • Maintain return staging table accuracy to ensure product returns are processed according to terms and conditions
  • Perform monthly audits to ensure compliance with product returns


  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, accounting or supply chain
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in logistics planning, transportation operations or customer service with at least 3 years of analytical experience
  • Strong analytical skills are required, specifically within MS Excel to include v-look ups, pivot tables, and graphing
  • Must be able to complete complex spreadsheet analysis. Proficient with common software tools (MS Project, PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel) An in depth knowledge of SAP, Data Lake and Hadoop is preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to Sr. Management
