Associate Director of Facilities & Utilities Engineering

Location: Bedford, MA     

The Associate Director of Facilities & Utilities Engineering is responsible for technical support of HVAC and utility systems for ongoing operations of the existing clinical cGMP manufacturing facility and engineering design, construction, and commissioning of HVAC and utility systems for a new commercial cGMP manufacturing facility.

This individual will be a part of a team to advance a fundamentally important aspect of the company’s long-term success focused on internal manufacturing capability. The Facility Engineering Associate Director is creative, team oriented and has hands on experience in Engineering, Engineering Management, and a strong grasp of HVAC and utility systems necessary to support a cGMP manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will participate in all levels of operations including trouble shooting systems and issues related to day to day operations.


  • Support the design, construction, and commissioning of a new cGMP Manufacturing facility
  • Support the Engineering team to ensure support of sustained cGMP manufacturing operations
  • Support the development of engineering standards to support cGMP operations
  • Act as system owner for all utilities and facilities systems
  • Perform and oversee initial start-up and shakedown of cGMP manufacturing facilities
  • Partner with QA and Engineering to develop and execute QCV activities
  • Drive the initiation, management, and closure of change initiatives as it relates to cGMP and base building utility operations
  • Provide technical expertise to management and less experienced professionals
  • Assist with fostering partnerships with external stakeholders


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with the preference being Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and ten plus (10+) years of experience in an engineering and/or facilities function within a biotech/pharmaceutical operations/ manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience leading and managing teams is preferred
  • Experience in Engineering of utility systems, facility design, and automation
  • Excellent communication, technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Flexibility to accommodate to rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
  • Must be a team player prepared to lead, work in, and embrace a team-based culture
