AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

AveXis Global Engineering and Facilities is seeking a Director to lead the Building and Site Services function. The individual will lead a team of site-based staff to assure the facilities and services are meeting the needs of entire enterprise by maintaining an efficient, effective and safe working environment for employees and their activities. The role will use best business practices to manage resources, services, and processes to meet those needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the site leads of the Building and Site Services staff and third-party vendors to maintain a reliable, secure and compliant network of sites (currently 5 sites, 13 buildings).
  • Member of the Global Engineering and Facilities (GEF) leadership team with responsibility to representative all GEF functions to the Site Leadership Team.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and industry codes.
  • Ensure staff has appropriate tools, procedures, standards and training to provide a positive and safe employee experience every day.
  • Drive consistency across sites.
  • Manage global budget and resource allocation.
  • Regularly visit each facility, meeting with site leadership and others to ensure proper care of assets and ensure service levels are being met.
  • Drive efficient contracts including globalizing appropriate contract services across sites.
  • Conduct and document regular facilities inspections.
  • Manage facility space for maximum efficiency overseeing intra-office moves.
  • Supervise maintenance and repair of architectural aspects of the facilities.
  • Support facility refurbishment and renovations (non-manufacturing).
  • Plan and manage facility central services such as snow removal, catering, general maintenance, pest control, cleaning, and architectural repairs.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors and suppliers, calculating and comparing costs for goods and services to maximize cost-effectiveness and negotiating contracts to optimize delivery and cost saving.
  • Coordinate and monitor activities including small capital projects and operational activities of contract suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance of the site with a specific focus on Facilities and Maintenance operations relative to applicable US and international regulatory agencies including OSHA and FDA.
  • Manage third party service provider relationships; maintains a master contact list and ensure that appropriate service agreements are in place and vendors are appropriately trained and qualified.
  • Support timely closure of facility related cGMP deficiencies including audit observations, corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and deviations.
  • Check completed work by contractors and vendors.
  • Manage, develop and train contract staff.
  • Prepare and track facility budget monitoring expenses and payments.
  • Generate and present regular reports and reviews of facility related budgets, contracts, expenditures and purchases.
  • Develop and implement cost reduction initiatives.
  • Provide prompt response to requests and issues from facility occupants.
  • Implement best practice processes to increase efficiency.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or similar with a minimum 15 years of experience in management of facilities, engineering or a related field or equivalent. Advanced degree such as an MBA would be an advantage.
  • Deep knowledge of facility infrastructure and operations including GMP production area support in biotech/biopharma industry, business management, and construction management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a cross functional, fast paced, dynamic team setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills is essential.
  • High energy level, a "can do" attitude and willingness to do what it takes to achieve goals and overcome obstacles.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of project management, business administration, procurement, contracts, financial principles and practices.
  • Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations, and FDA and similar cGMPs.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, and all facets of facility operations.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural finishes and components.
  • Planning, problem analysis, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient computer skill utilizing MS Office suite applications, Building Management
    Systems, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Customer service focused.
  • Ability to adapt in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in areas of responsibility.
