Summary: The Associate Manager Process Sciences Downstream will support scientific investigations related to production processes for biological drugs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Leads a team of engineers and scientists to perform root cause analysis in manufacturing investigations related to downstream unit operations of biologics manufacturing processes

• Drafts study protocols and author study reports for manufacturing support and scientific studies

• Conducts small-scale lab operations, perform statistical analysis of data, and present results in cross-functional meetings

• Performs scientific investigations (EOE & DNF)

• Provides technical support for manufacturing operations

• Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for manufacturing downstream operations, data analysis and manufacturing support activities

• Provides support to scale down model development and perform DOE experiments

• Guides the Development of statistical process control and modeling tools for manufacturing investigations and manufacturing process control

• Participates in process and quality risk assessments

• Participates in tech transfer activities

• Reviews and/or approves Manufacturing documentation associated with the transferred process

• Supports Process Analytical Technology (PAT) in developing new software and statistical process modeling tools

• Participates in new technology initiative efforts and continuous improvement projects

Knowledge and Skills:

• Lab skills in protein separation, filtration and purification

• JMP or advanced statistical software programs

• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

• Ability to coordinate, organize and assign daily activities of operations

• Ability to motivate employees and build team morale

• Continuously drive to improve processes for improved performance

• Support employees, executing against established guidelines and common procedures and policies

• Ability to provide feedback and career counseling

• Ability to effectively manage high-stress situations

• Strong leader and teacher

• Demonstrated flexibility during ambiguous situations

• Ability to identify problems and escalate accordingly

Education and Experience:

• Requires a BS/BA in Chemical Engineering, Computational Science, Life Sciences, or related field with 5+ years of relevant scientific industry experience or MS with 4+ years of relevant scientific industry experience or a PhD with 2+ years of relevant scientific industry experience.

• Managerial experience is required; additional industrial experience and people leadership may be considered in lieu of managerial experience.

• Experience in working in a purification sciences team, knowledge of protein separation techniques, experimental design, and advanced modeling techniques is strongly desired.
