Job Details

Amgen Oncology Therapeutic Areas (Solid Tumor and Hematology) participate in 20+ Tier 1 congresses annually. The complexity and co-ordination of activities across multiple stakeholder groups involved in congress preparation and execution (within and outside of Oncology Portfolio) creates a need for a hub lead coordinating across the Functions and Therapeutic Areas.

The Oncology Congress Lead Director for Global Product Strategy & Commercial Innovation (GPS&CI) will be responsible for the strategic planning and leading the execution of Global Oncology congresses and branding activities to successfully deliver Amgen's presence at external medical congresses to support brand, disease, business and company priorities. The individual will be supporting new Amgen model for congress planning, by working very closely with the senior leadership on the overall Oncology Congress Strategy, Medical a Commercial leads on congress objectives alignment and Operations / Function Team on congress preparation and execution. The Congress Lead will liaise closely with the Global Brand Teams, Global Medical Affairs, Regional teams, Conventions/Meetings team and agency partners to ensure the successful organization of all aspects of Amgen's global oncology congress presence.

Responsibilities
  • Leads the development and ongoing management of the annual strategic plan for Global Oncology congresses partnering closely with Commercial and Medical teams. Identifies key congresses and rationale for level of Amgen's sponsorship and activities. Provides guidance and recommendations of the role congresses can play in achieving strategic objectives.
  • Facilitates provision of the high-level strategic inputs the to the Congress Leads by providing executive line of sight into business priorities.
  • Appoints congress leads and allocates congress resources. Leads congress management activities and evaluation of individual congress projects.
  • Tracks, influences, recommends and challenges appropriate spend of budgets on congresses within Oncology and facilitates corresponding agreement on milestones and deliverables for each congress to achieve optimal congress presence.
  • Ensures congress master inventory and individual congress files are maintained, congress measurements / metrics are completed, documentation is collected and keeps stakeholders updated on procedures to ensure congresses are delivered in an ethical and compliant manner.
  • Ensures all strategies, tactics, and activities are compliant with Amgen policies.
  • Leads execution of all key global oncology congress-related activities across cross-functional teams (e.g. Commercial, Medical, Advocacy, Training, Regions, etc.) to ensure alignment and optimization of activities in support of the Oncology Congress Strategy. Responsibilities include convening and leading the Congress Preparation meetings in addition to overseeing the execution teams to coordinate all elements of congress planning such as sponsorship activities, booth design and logistics, on-site pre-conference and other key meetings, scientific exchange activities, media events and competitive intelligence. Functional leads will have direct accountability for certain activities but the Director will coordinate, in addition to ensuring adherence to aligned congress objectives.
  • Manages the relationship with third party vendors and agencies to ensure all necessary contracts are negotiated and in place, they are compliant with the relevant code of practice requirements, and they deliver at or above expectations at events.
  • Fosters strong partnerships with the functions and global business units to deliver on strategic priorities through one of the most high-profile channels of interactions with Amgen customers.
  • Communicates the overall commercial and medical strategy when setting individual congress objectives in advance of congress planning (aligned to TA, disease area and asset focus / needs).
  • Manages communications planning and reporting delivery (horizontally across functions and vertically to senior management) by ensuring various congress narratives are aligned with the overall congress and asset pipeline development goals.
  • Aligns with the Regional Leads on the overall congress portfolio objectives and key tactics.
  • Represents Oncology Voice of Customer in cross-functional and cross-Therapeutic Areas congress planning forums.
  • Project manages Amgen's presence at the congresses to ensure successful on-site delivery by collaborating with a variety of business partners and stakeholders.
  • Provides hands-on support to each congress Commercial and Medical Leads to ensure:
    • Smooth congresses planning and execution across functions and regions.
    • Oversight of booth development, implementation of congress registration, communications and on-site coordination.
    • Appropriate congress attendance (who's there, who needs to be there).
    • Collaborative partnerships with the Regions.
  • Further refines and streamlines approach to congress activity, competitive events and organizational focus. Drives continuous improvement by introducing innovative ideas and identifying better ways to creatively streamline events and congresses (especially under budget constraints) and align congresses as part of the broader strategy
  • Attends multiple global congresses throughout the year (international and domestic).

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing experience, or marketing and sales and/or pharma consulting experience

OR

Master's degree and 6 years of marketing experience, or marketing and sales and/or pharma consulting experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 8 years of marketing experience, or marketing and sales and/or pharma consulting experience

Oncology therapeutic area experience preferred
