Description

Lundbeck La Jolla Research Center, Inc. (LLJRC) is a discovery research arm of H. Lundbeck A/S.  Our mission is to develop innovative medicines that address significant unmet need in the treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders.  LLJRC is seeking a motivated neuroscientist to support preclinical stage programs in the portfolio.  In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for working with and leading project teams to validate novel CNS targets and characterize first-in-class small molecules to the drug candidate stage using cell-based and in vivo models. Experience in microglial biology and neuroinflammation is desirable but not mandatory.

 

Your job and key responsibilities

You will be a key contributor to multi-disciplinary project teams supporting target validation of novel CNS disease targets and the development of high quality small molecule therapeutics. You will be responsible for independently developing, performing and interpreting in vitro, cellular and in vivo pharmacology studies executed internally and/or at Contract Research Organizations (CROs). Approximately 75% of your work will be lab-based, focused on cellular and in vivo assays to evaluate mechanism of action of new drug candidates with an emphasis on microglia biology and models of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. You will also be responsible for data analysis, preparation of reports and presentations.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Our preferred candidate has the following personal and professional qualifications;

  • PhD and PostDoc in neuroscience, neurobiology or related area
  • 0 – 3 years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical drug discovery/development
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge of CNS biology
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills
  • Both effective team player and strong individual contributor, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks and deliver high quality results under tight timelines
  • Some travel required to H. Lundbeck A/S in Valby, Denmark

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of CNS disease models and elucidating small molecule mechanisms-of-action
  • Expertise in microglial biology and experience with cellular and in vivo neuroinflammation models strongly desired
  • Expertise in current technology platforms in CNS biology and neuroimmunology
