Kezar Life Sciences, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical, is looking for an experienced, dynamic, and motivated Senior Research Associate/Scientist. Kezar is focused on small molecule drug discovery and development to target autoimmune/inflammatory disorders and oncology based on the biology of protein homeostasis. Our lead compound, KZR-616 (a selective inhibitor of the immunoproteasome), is in early stage clinical trials, and we have multiple drug discovery programs targeting protein secretion. This is an exciting time to help drive the development of novel therapies for unmet needs in multiple indications.

The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing novel therapeutic drug candidates for ongoing and emerging projects. This hands-on position will be responsible for designing and executing mechanism of action studies to characterize novel molecules and developing cellular assays to drive lead generation and optimization. In addition, the position will contribute to novel target discovery and validation. The successful candidate must have excellent problem solving, multitasking and communication skills.

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute high quality experiments in the area of immunology or cancer immunotherapy
  • Isolate and culture primary immune cells for immune profiling and cellular assays
  • Plan and execute/manage in vivo animal studies
  • Support novel target validation and PD marker identification
  • Collaborate in multifunctional teams to accomplish research goals
  • Analyze and summarize data for internal and external presentations and publications

Requirements

  • Ph.D. with a focus on immunology, immuno-oncology, cell biology, or related area
    • or M.S. with 3+ years relevant experience
    • or B.S. with 5+ years relevant experience
  • Industry experience highly desirable
  • Proficiency in multi-color flow cytometry is required and experience with immune profiling is preferred
  • Extensive experience in assay development is required
  • Expertise in isolating primary immune cell populations (T cells/dendritic cells/macrophages/NK cells) from human and mouse and performing immunoassays is preferred
  • Experience in animal model (autoimmune and oncology) design and execution including dosing, tumor measurements, and tissue dissection is a plus
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g. GraphPad Prism, FlowJo) is required
  • Strong organization, communication and presentation skills
  • Innovative, self-motivated and flexible to advance multiple projects under tight timelines and changing priorities
