Job Details

The Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics Department at AbbVie has an opening for an Associate Scientist I position in North Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will be responsible for extraction and quantitation of small molecules from in vitro and in vivo samples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use liquid handling robotics
  • Operate LCMS (liquid chromatography mass spectrometer) systems
  • Use analytical methods for the quantitation of small molecules
  • Use Electronic Notebook to fully document experimental methods and results


Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in analytical chemistry or related scientific field.
  • Knowledge of protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, and solid phase extraction
  • Knowledge of chromatographic and analytical methodologies
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and an ability to collaborate successfully across other groups within R&D
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Highly motivated and self-driven with the flexibility to quickly adapt to different projects
  • Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation and manages innovation to reality
  • Creates a learning environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. in analytical chemistry or related scientific field + 1 year industry experience
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting Hamilton Robots, Tissue Homogenizers and other robotic platforms used for sample preparation
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting Agilent HPLCs, Leap/CTC PAL autosamplers and AB Sciex Mass Spectrometers
