Summary:

We are seeking a scientifically passionate R&D Specialist to join our dynamic neuroscience research group. This person will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team to perform hands-on research studies designed to investigate novel targets and mechanisms in neurodegenerative disorders, with an initial focus on Huntington's disease. Goals will include developing in vitro and in vivo assays for studying basic mechanisms of disease and evaluating novel strategies for treating neurodegenerative disorders.

Responsibilities:

• Examine the functional properties and viability of human iPSC-derived neurons from patients with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Huntington's disease.

• Characterize the aggregation properties of proteins associated with neurodegeneration using biochemistry and immunocytochemistry.

• Examine the role of protein aggregation in neuronal function and dysfunction in vitro and in vivo.

• Perform immunohistochemical, biochemical and behavioral analyses of mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases, with an initial focus on Huntington's disease.

• Develop in vitro assays for examination of therapeutic approaches targeting Huntington's disease and related proteins.

• Keep abreast of current/relevant literature in order to further develop scientific expertise, new assays and expand scientific/technical knowledge and skill sets.

• Participate in group and departmental meetings and give presentations.

• Document experiments, results and findings in laboratory notebook.

• Contribute to writing of protocols and articles for publication.

Requirements:

• MS+ 0-2+ or / BS + 3+ years of experience

• Hands-on experience with mammalian cell cultures, iPSCs, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, SDS-PAGE and western blotting strongly preferred.

• Hands-on experience with behavioral assays, especially motor function-related tests, in mice and/or rats required.

• Working knowledge of experimental design, statistical analysis, and data presentation required.

Hands-on experience with cell viability assays desirable.

• Experience with primary neuronal cultures and/or stereotaxic brain injections a plus.

Strong communication and presentation skills a plus.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team essential.
