Job Details
The Clinical Research Directorate (CRD) provides comprehensive, dedicated clinical research and study coordination support to the clinics operated by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases' (NIAIDs) Division of Clinical Research (DCR), Intramural Clinical Management and Operations Branch (ICMOB).
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES- THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING APPROVAL
- Collects data, updates log, categorizes, and prepares infectious and non-infectious tissue specimens for shipment derived from clinical research trials
- Creates patient schedules and provides updates to the team as needed
- Inputs specimen numbering, requests repository pulls, archives data, and performs retrievals
- Prepares, examines, checks and verifies internal program reports for completeness, propriety, adequacy, and timeliness
- Maintains and distributes lab results tables, maintains bloods schedule and technical aspects of research lab management
- Responds to requests from scientists for sample information, and being involved in protocol discussion and development with respect to lab sample evaluations and logistics
- Uses Microsoft Office software applications to perform job functions as well as clinic-specific databases
- May assist clinic personnel with scheduling of patient appointments and other scheduling tasks
- Difficult or unusual problems are referred to the supervisor for review/guidance
- This position is located in Bethesda, Maryland
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in a related field (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- No experience required with a Bachelor's degree
- Biomedical research related experience may be substituted for the degree
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of record keeping, patient records, data management, computer databases, as well as working knowledge of software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
- Ability to compose efficient correspondence, prepare reports from raw data, design, set up and execute efficient filing systems, and an understanding of overall clinical operations in order to provide adequate patient care arrangements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to manage multiple tasks is essential
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of specimen handling and shipping procedures preferred
- Previous experience scheduling appointments for patients and other scheduling activities

- Candidate will be working with or have the potential for exposure to infectious material(s) or Other Potentially Infectious Materials (OPIM), requiring medical clearance and immunization in accordance with protocol requirements
- Candidate would be working with or have the potential for exposure to Toxoplasma gondii, requiring medical clearance and immunizations in accordance with protocol requirements
- Candidate will be working with or have the potential for exposure of Pertussis toxin, requiring medical clearance and immunizations in accordance with protocol requirements
