Sr. Research Scientist I - In Vivo Pharmacology

Kite Pharma is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to lead in vivo pharmacology within the preclinical research organization in Santa Monica. The successful candidate will lead a team which supports pipeline and development programs through design and execution of in vivo studies, as well as the production and characterization of CAR T cells.

Responsibilities and duties include, but not limited to:

• Design, execute and interpret preclinical in vivo studies in support of multiple programs.
• Assess activity of CAR-T cells in preclinical mouse models ex vivo through direct analysis in blood by flow cytometry, PCR or serum cytokine analysis.
• Lead scale-up production of CAR-T for in vivo studies and perform in vitro characterization through the use of multiple functional assays.
• Coordinate tasks across multiple projects, demonstrating prioritization and planning.
• Serve as a line-function representative within a matrix organization.

Requirements:

• PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a closely related field with a minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience (3 or more within industry).
• Extensive hands-on familiarity with multi-color flow cytometry and data analysis.
• Experience in the characterization of T cell function in vitro through cytotoxicity, proliferation and cytokine production assays.
• Experience in the use of mouse tumor models in a variety of cancer indications.
• Excellent cell culture and sterile techniques, with emphasis on primary T cell culture.
• Prior experience with cell therapy and lentiviral or retroviral transgene delivery is highly desired.
• Previous experience managing Research Associates and/or Scientists.
• Excellent oral and written skills.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, able to embrace change and deploy resources to provide key deliverables.
• Demonstrated leadership and the ability to collaborate with and effectively influence others.
