The Vaccine Clinical Materials Program (VCMP) is responsible for the overall direction of the operations/manufacturing of the vaccine and biotherapeutic development facility for the development of experimental therapeutics for pre-clinical and Phase I and II clinical trials targeting a range of infectious diseases.

  • Manage a staff of at least 2 cGMP Purchasing Specialists to include approving timesheets, writing performance appraisals and distributing workload
  • Responsible for solving issues as they relate to purchasing materials and supplies, equipment and services
  • Update various Bill of Materials with unit of purchase and up to date costs for use in estimating
  • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure vendors are qualified prior to use
  • Attend manufacturing meetings and report on status of materials
  • Work with Materials Management in forecasting materials needed for future manufacturing projects
  • Work with Materials Management to ensure production is not impacted by delayed deliveries
  • Track purchase requisitions through the system, reporting when they are converted to purchase orders
  • Work with staff to ensure open purchase orders are closed in a timely manner
  • Independently perform ordering functions utilizing established company systems to support all operations at Vaccine Pilot Plant as well as the client lab in Gaithersburg
  • Ensure all necessary components and services are efficiently ordered for timely delivery
  • Interact with vendors as necessary including coordinating activities with operations personnel in resolution of ordering issues
  • Manage internal purchasing database, ensuring timely and accurate updates
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit reports to VCMP management
  • Ensure all standing orders, reports, and timelines are met

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of experience ordering a wide variety of materials and supplies for current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) compliant manufacturing operations including 2 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Knowledge of ordering procedures
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

  • Working knowledge of internal policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Federal Procurement Regulations, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), or cGMP procedures
