Job Details

The Safety Pharmacology department plays an especially influential role in all Abbvie discovery projects by providing both standard in vitro and in vivo cardiovascular safety screening as well as fit-for-purpose assay development to aid in critical decision making.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our safety pharmacology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for running, analyzing, and reporting several routine, in vivo assays, developing new capabilities, as well as assisting senior scientists with projects as needed in a collaborative, team-based setting. By conducting in vivo & in vitro cardiovascular studies, the successful candidate will contribute to the evaluation of safety pharmacologic profiles on the cardiovascular system and provide key mechanism of action results of evolving therapeutics during early drug discovery through early clinical drug development. The position is part of a key interface between internal stakeholders across AbbVie (i.e. Discovery, Development Sciences, Preclinical Toxicology, and DMPK).

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Perform routine tasks competently and independently, and generate reliable and consistent results.
  • Analyze and critique results, noting significant deviations.
  • Troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation.
  • Learn and understand new experimental techniques.
  • Demonstrate skill in multiple techniques and appropriately modify protocols, as required, to suit the changing needs of research or development sciences.
  • Place data in proper scientific context by consulting and citing relevant literature.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in his/her field.
  • Impact projects predominantly through lab and/or pilot plant based activities.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.


Level and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Basic:
  • BS/MS in Biological Sciences or related field
  • The successful candidate should be able to work independently and quickly adjust to changing priorities is required
  • Familiarity with basic cardiovascular physiology, data acquisition platforms, data analysis, strong computer and writing skills are essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience developing & executing in vivo & in vitro assays, ideally with an emphasis on the cardiovascular system
  • Technical knowledge of cardiovascular pharmacology in a pharmaceutical research, academic or contract research environment
