Amgen is seeking an Enterprise Architect (GL5) to join the City Planning Agile Product team, which is part of the Office of the CIO. The Enterprise Architect will provide "City Planning" subject matter expertise and architectural guidance to the various lead functional architects, domain architects and application owners across information technology.

The Enterprise Architect will report to the Manager Information Systems based out of Amgen's Thousand Oaks, California office. At Amgen, our mission is simple: to serve patients. The City Planning Agile Product team is a critical group within the Office of the CIO, responsible for the disposition and transformation of Amgen's application portfolio, driving adherence to the City Planning platform and cloud strategies, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and security requirements. This is a high-functioning team, capable of working effectively within a collaborative and dynamic environment, and passionate about providing solutions that enable Amgen to meet its business objectives.

Key Responsibilities of the Enterprise Architect include:
  • Communicate and advocate Amgen's City Planning strategy to other technologists across the company
  • Support functional lead architects and application owners with evaluations of their application portfolios and guidance on the appropriate technical transformation approach (re-platform, rebuild, retire, re-architect)
  • Provide governance and oversight of the application dispositioning process, including consolidating and operationalizing the individual platform team processes
  • Drive adherence to the City Planning technologies and principles across the IS organization
  • Understand and advocate DevOps frameworks and agile practices
  • Work daily with the City Planning Agile team to develop, plan and manage the backlog of City Planning application transformation activities
  • This position may require domestic travel up to 15%

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree
Master's degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience
Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in large enterprise IT (
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change, and guide others through change
  • Hands on experience with modern enablement platforms such as Salesforce and AWS
  • Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain information technology concepts and principles to audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge
  • One or more of the following training certifications:
    • Salesforce Trailhead
      • Admin Beginner
      • Build Apps Fast with Salesforce Lightning platform
    • AWS
      • Beginner Architect Certification
    • Coursera
      • Agile Software Development
