We are seeking a Scientist to join a vibrant and growing group currently focusing on Neurodegenerative diseases within the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area, a key component of the Discovery Research unit at Amgen's site in Cambridge, MA (Amgen Massachusetts-AMA). The candidate must be a Scientist with in-depth knowledge of molecular and cellular biology and assay development to participate in ongoing efforts directed toward developing new and effective therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Position Responsibilities

Conceptualize, design and independently execute broad sets of experiments required to identify, develop and validate cell-based assays to support therapeutic candidates

Conceptualize, design and independently execute broad sets of experiments required to validate novel targets for neurodegenerative diseases

Develop innovative strategies and mechanisms for identifying novel biomarker candidates

Establish and manage target validation and assay development studies outsourced to contract research organizations and academic labs

Critically analyze and interpret data, define realistic timelines for studies and meet delivery deadlines

Work closely with and communicate results to multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams

Present strategies and results to project teams

Execute high impact studies within an extremely fast-paced and collaborative environment

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree OR Doctorate degree by October 2019

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of Scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

PhD plus postdoc and/or industry experience

Deep expertise in molecular and cellular biology

Experience in the development of functional, cellular assays

Experience with neuronal cell lines, primary neurons and/or iPSC-derived neurons

Established scientific reputation in neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases as evidenced by an outstanding publication track record

Experience working in a cross-functional and matrixed organization and/or a highly collaborative research environment

Highly motivated self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
