Main Job Purpose:

Amgen is seeking a Senior Manager (Sr Mgr, Information Systems (IS) to join the Operations IS (OIS) organization at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Sr Mgr IS will act as the OIS data management and reporting leader supporting Process Development including owning the IS4PD Program focused on transforming the solution landscape, assisting solution designs for new and existing manufacturing facilities and defining the ongoing lifecycle management of the applications and systems supporting Amgen's Process Development function globally. The incumbent will lead design, development and implementation of systems and solutions. This role will work with the Head of OIS Process Development and will partner with other parts or the organization to advance data management, governance, and reporting systems.

Operations Information Systems (OIS) is accountable for the delivery of the information and Operations technology systems that enable the successful development, design, manufacturing, distribution and commercialization of Amgen products. OIS manages the development and execution of the IT strategy, architecture and operations by delivering business information systems, automation, IT services and digital technology solutions and devices.

Key Activities for the Sr. Mgr IS including:

Overall ownership of Process Development and Operations data in the Enterprise Data Lake and responsible for ongoing support and enhancements and delivery of new initiatives in the EDL.
  • Provide vision, lead design and implementation of digital lab initiatives providing experiment design, authoring and execution solutions
  • Develop strategy and architecture for data integration of complex lab and manufacturing instrumentation
  • Overall ownership of Reference Data Platform within Operations and responsible for ongoing support for reference data platform
  • Responsible for translating Amgen Operations and PD vision for using data and advanced analytics into the reality of detailed actions in the laboratory, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, engineering, and IS organizations
  • Provide leadership to OIS direct reports to define the vision and goals to achieve business outcomes and coordinate the implementation of the project portfolio
  • Travel: Domestic and International travel up to 20% may be required

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Master's degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience

AND

2 plus years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 plus years of managerial experience directly managing staff and/or leading very large teams, projects, programs
  • Technical Expertise: Good understanding of biotechnology information systems including global operations functions such as process development
  • Program Management: 4 plus years leading multi-million dollar, multi-functional and highly technical programs crossing multiple geographies and business domains
  • Deep understanding of the data technology landscape (e.g. Data Lake/Hadoop/Amazon Web Service ecosystems) as well as it's applicability to the biotechnology sector
  • Deep understanding of the analytics and data science landscape (e.g. Spotfire/Tableau/R/Python ecosystems) as well as it's applicability to the biotechnology sector
  • Experience directing solution design, business processes redesign and software implementation in a drug development lab / commercialization environment
  • Deep understanding of operating in a GMP environment and productionizing solutions in a GMP validated state and PMP Certification or equivalent
  • Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, ability to see the big picture, ability to collect, digest and assemble information to enable relevant business analyses and facilitate decision-making
