Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Accountable, as a member of the Data Science Leadership Team, to collaboratively establish organizational strategy, to steward Data Science culture, and to effectively execute against clinical development priorities, best positioning AbbVie for success.
  • Collaboratively influences and supports the development of clinical data strategy for each program, which aligns with the priorities of assigned therapeutic area.
  • Accountable for optimizing operational capabilities consisting of process, people and technology, and for ensuring frictionless transitions to and from peer departments. Includes system assessment and selection, standards development, and data management methods.
  • The position is responsible for delivering operational excellence and for ensuring flawless clinical trial execution. This includes the establishment of a business process framework with accompanying measures in collaboration with the TQM Lead and cross-functional business partners.
  • Oversees activities related to goals, initiatives and business process alignment, both within Data Science and across functions.
  • Designs global resource models that leverage employees, contracted workers and service providers. Resulting models must account for the Data Science global footprint, and financial constraints.
  • Builds and maintains a high-performing team of innovative, solutions-focused entrepreneurs who push beyond established boundaries to create the process/technology combinations of the future.
  • As a leader of leaders, the Director is accountable for employee development, growth, career progression and talent management.
  • Co-develops clinical development strategy and drives cross-functional alignment by establishing strong relationships, by using holistic knowledge of clinical development and by influencing direction across multiple layers of leadership.
  • Represents AbbVie externally within the clinical data space to drive industry conversations, while bringing best practices back to AbbVie. Monitors emerging trends across the external environment. Assesses impacts to current and future strategies.
  • Ensures adherence to federal regulations and applicable local regulations, Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), ICH Guidelines, AbbVie Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and to functional quality standards. Stays abreast of new and/or evolving local regulations, guidelines and policies related to clinical development.


Level will be based on education & years of experience.

Basic:

  • Degree in life sciences, business, operations, engineering, statistics, or related discipline is required. A master's degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of pharma / clinical research / data management / health care experience and 5+ years of direct people leadership.
  • Leadership acumen including emotional intelligence and business awareness. Ability to effectively collaborate and influence throughout multiple levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional ability to connect concepts, dependencies and constraints in order to drive cross functionally optimized operations and to drive innovation.
  • Demonstrated value-driven leadership skills and expertise in building organizations.
  • Ability to attract, challenge, develop and retain specialized talent with expertise in clinical trials management and technology.
  • Ability to lead globally distributed teams while maintaining culture, standardization and harmonization.
