This person is responsible for supporting pharmacokinetic/toxicokinetic strategy for the preclinical development of small molecules and protein therapeutics within Drug Safety Evaluation (DSE). The candidate will have a strong background in pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism, and will serve as the key contact for all pharmacokinetic/toxicokinetic (PK/TK)-related issues pertinent to the development of assigned drug candidates. As part of the DSE Toxicokinetics group, the candidate will serve as a contributor scientist/principal investigator onDSE studies and execute PK/TK and PK/PD strategies; will closely interact with DSE study directors and project representatives, as well as colleagues from bioanalytical, drug metabolism, and other relevant functional areas.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for all TK-related issues pertinent to the development of assigned drug candidates.
  • Serve as a contributing scientist on toxicology studies and execute all phases/aspects of the toxicokinetics evaluation with minimum supervision. Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following: provide TK study design, use TK modeling to support study dose selection, calculate PK/TK parameters, provide TK data interpretation, and write TK reports that meet internal and external standards.
  • Deliver high quality scientific results according to agreed timeline for several concurrent studies.
  • Prepare or coordinate the preparation of toxicokinetic summaries, as needed, in support of the registration of drug candidates or in response to requests from regulatory authorities.
  • Effectively communicate study results at internal meetings, as appropriate.
  • Use judgment and knowledge where appropriate to influence project team decision making.
  • Create an atmosphere of scientific excellence, open communication, and creativity in order to maximize productivity
  • Ensure the compliance with Good Laboratory Practice, Standard Operating Procedures, and study protocols in conducting toxicology studies. Ensure compliance with all company/departmental policies, as well as other federal, state and corporate policies and guidelines particularly those relating to animal welfare and employee safety and health.
  • Evaluate and apply new scientific methodology in order to maintain scientific excellence, to meet research and drug-registration needs, and to minimize or resolve toxicity-based problems with company products or those under development

Position requirements
  • BS/MS/PhD in Pharmacometrics, Pharmaceutics, Toxicology, Pharmacology, or other related scientific disciplines. BS/MS or equivalent with minimum 2-7 years related experience or PhD degree with minimum 0-1 year related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong work ethics and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the general principles of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, animal and human biology and physiology.
  • Experience in PK/PD modeling software (eg, Phoenix WinNonlin) desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
