Purpose of the Position:

Develops methods for synthesis, purification, lyophilization under supervision (of Process Development Chemist I or higher). Executes experimentation for the development of synthesis, purification and lyophilization processes to scale-up, optimize and validate processes. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Avecia oligonucleotide manufacturing principles and processes. Advises supervisor as to the status of assigned activities. Normally receives no instruction on routine work or general instructions on new assignments.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Plan under supervision and execute laboratory work to develop and improve processes for new and existing products and intermediates to meet quality, cost operability, productivity and SHE objectives agreed with Process Development Group Leader controlled by a protocol or directive.

Carry out laboratory support work to assist in the solution of manufacturing process problems in order to permit restoration of satisfactory process operation and continued improvement of production performance.

Prepare for tech transfer programs in consultation with supervisor, and take part in appropriate on-plant supervision, to permit the safe and effective trial of process modifications or scale-up studies on semi technical or full-scale plant.

Communicate with supervisor to exchange information and results for the direction and monitoring of development work.

Prepare representative lab samples of new products to enable business/customer evaluation.

Job Knowledge/Competencies Required:

B.S. Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

General knowledge of chemical lab procedures and equipment

1-5 years related experience
