Purpose of the Position:

Assists in the development of processes and methods for the synthesis, purification, ultrafiltration, lyophilization, and testing of new and existing oligonucleotide products.

Participates in the testing and implementation of new work processes, technologies, and procedures and is involved in product scale-up, process optimization, and validation activities.

Reports status of assigned activities to Process Development leadership. Normally receives general instruction on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Carry out laboratory work to develop/improve processes to meet quality, cost operability, productivity, and SHE objectives agreed with Process Development leadership.

Carry out laboratory support to assist in the solution of manufacturing process issues.

Participate in technology transfer programs in consultation with Process Development leadership, manufacturing personnel, and SHE representatives to allow for safe and effective implementation or modification of oligonucleotide processes.

Prepare representative lab samples of new products to enable business/customer evaluation.

Assist with and/or execute laboratory preparations of API samples for customer use utilizing best available procedures and practices to produce requested amounts of material with acceptable quality attributes.

Maintain laboratory documentation using standard scientific record keeping practices

Assist in the preparation of appropriate sections of technical development protocols, technical development reports, and campaign summary reports to properly document laboratory experimentation and conclusions.

Perform assigned group responsibilities to maintain an efficient operating laboratory

Communicate appropriate information to representatives of Supply Chain, QC/AD, and Facilities to enable efficient execution of work activities

Maintain an appropriate level of training on company and departmental procedures as determined by Avecia and Process Development

Job Knowledge Required:

B.S. Degree in chemistry or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

General knowledge of chemical laboratory procedures and equipment

2-5 years related experience
