Reporting to the head of Project Management, this individual will provide project management support as a key member on drug development project teams and subteams. The Director, Project Management is expected to actively contribute and help the teams to effectively and efficiently deliver on project goals on schedule and within budget. The director partners with the team leader to anticipate, identify, manage and communicate project risks. The director will also participate in project management process improvement initiatives. The director will achieve this by delivering high quality project management support and other high value services:
• Applies project management expertise
• Takes accountability for all project management aspects and works effectively and closely with the project leader / team leader
• Enables generation of innovative options through project management expertise
• Ensures consistency of project planning at all stages of the project lifecycle
• Contributes to the functional development of project management

Essential Functions
• Develop, maintain, pro-actively track & manage project milestones and deliverables (employing tools such as Gantt charts, flow charts, and trackers)
• Closely and transparently manage the critical path of the project
• Effectively guide a team through the formation of a comprehensive drug development plan
• Coordinate and facilitate team meetings, draft and issue timely agendas and minutes, and follow up on action items
• Maintain, track, report and understand variances in the project budget by working in close collaboration with functional contributors and finance
• Guide and manage the team ensuring effective and efficient team operation
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear, succinct and timely communication and proven ability to foster important relationships with key stakeholders
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of project information to meet team, management and portfolio requirements
• Partner with the team leader in identifying, managing & communicating key project risks and leading risk management strategies
• Work with a variety of different stakeholders (internal and external) to help gain alignment, synthesize information, and bring info together into cohesive plan.
• Prepare project updates for governance meetings and clearly communicate status in written documents and presentations
• Ensure team conflicts are resolved in a professional and timely manner
• Participate in implementing improvements to project management processes, tools and infrastructure to ensure ongoing efficiency across the R&D organization and company wide

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• 6 to 10 years of Project Management experience (or comparable functional experience) supporting cross-functional project teams in a drug development company
• Experience creating and actively managing integrated timelines and budgets
• Strong influencing skills; proven ability to get things done without formal authority
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization
• Thorough understanding of drug development processes
• Excellent communication skills which enables PM to collaborate successfully with executive level stakeholders
• Experience facilitating project team meetings, cross-functional communication and decision making, and ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders
• Willingness to strategize with the team as needed to solve complex issues
• Partners with the team leader to ensure the team achieves and maintains a high-level of sustainable performance, by contributing to appropriate team management best practices
• Leadership skills, maturity, composure, emotional intelligence
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities under tight deadlines
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Project, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Visio)
• Experience within a start-up biotech company a plus

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses
• Bachelor's Degree required. Scientific degree preferred. Advanced degree (Science, MBA) is a plus.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus
