AveXis is advancing cutting-edge science, starting with our proprietary gene therapy for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). We are in the midst of an incredible journey and are looking for passionate individuals to join us on this important mission.

AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

AveXis is seeking an exceptional Research Associate to join the dynamic and growing analytical team to perform routine testing and to establish analytical methods suitable for lot disposition and characterization of gene therapy drug products and substances.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, perform laboratory work based on established analytical methods for sample testing.
  • Assist in analyzing and summarizing test results and drafting tech reports and SOPs.
  • Under supervision, develop, optimize and qualify analytical methods suitable for gene therapy characterization, lot release and stability study.
  • Conduct routine lab work including making buffers, washing glassware, routine maintenance of analytical instruments, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining a good lab environment, ordering general lab supply/reagents, maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment and maintaining a good sample inventory.
  • Proactively identify the needs of the bioassay group and provide suggestions and solutions.


Qualifications

  • B.S. in biology, cell biology, immunology or related scientific discipline, with minimum of 2 years of biopharma industry experience is required.
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of cells and 96 well-based bioassays.
  • Basic understanding and working experience with techniques including but not limited to cell culture, ELISA, liquid handler, western blot, microscopy.
  • Quick learner, highly motivated, hard-working and detail oriented. Strong ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with highly goal-oriented approaches and to prioritize work from multiple projects with can-do attitude is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
