Job Details

AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics team in North Chicago. The ideal candidate will have strong background and expertise in drug transporter biology. Applicants having significant experience in an adjacent area, such as drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics or hepatocyte biology is desirable. In this exciting role, you will be expected to participate actively in advocating for the impact/role of drug transporters in discovery and development. The position will involve the conduct of in vitro drug transporter assays as well as influencing and helping to drive the global drug transport strategy at AbbVie. You will be expected to evaluate new technologies and approaches to support the mechanistic and translational understanding of drug disposition and drug-drug interactions mediated by drug transporters. In addition, you will have opportunities to contribute to broader areas within DMPK by as your experience and expertise warrants.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Designing and conducting routine and non-routine transporter assays, generating high quality, impactful data that enables decision making.
  • Writing and reviewing reports suitable for regulatory agency submission
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on transporter biology within DMPK
  • Evaluating novel in vitro tools and methods to enable and improve prediction of transporter-mediated drug-drug interactions and pharmacokinetics
  • In addition to the core responsibilities, the position provides the opportunity to explore questions to improve understanding of transporter protein function as it relates to prediction of disposition and elimination of small molecule drugs.
  • Necessary skills include: cell culture, enzyme kinetics, curve-fitting. Experience in primary cell culture (e.g. hepatocytes), radioisotope work, project management, electronic lab notebooks, would be advantageous.


Basic:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and typically 12 years of experience, Master's Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and experience with DMPK experiments and projects, through academic or industry work.
  • Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline.
