The Engineering department at our Thousand Oaks, California location is seeking a graduate student interested in a 12 month Co-op placement. Engineering is part of Amgen's Operations organization but provides support across the entire company. Engineering contributes the technical expertise necessary to plan, build, operate, maintain, and continuously improve the physical assets that enable Amgen to attain its mission. Engineering creates a competitive advantage for Amgen through strategic management of the lifecycle of its assets, thus enabling it to better serve patients.

In addition, Engineering plays a key role in supporting and enhancing Amgen's reputation as a leader in science and technology, creating value through innovation, integrity and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Use Continuous Improvement tools to analyse data and provide direct input into Engineering's processes and improvement initiatives.
  • Support efforts to develop structured workflows based on the established manual processes and identify possible areas for process automation
  • Provide engineering support on capital construction projects including: equipment specification, selection, responses to RFIs, resolving technical issues and conflicts, and supporting overall project objectives.
  • Develop new tools, methods, controls and innovative solutions to Amgen's key processes
  • Drive significant, positive, and lasting impact on the cycle time, labor intensiveness, quality and variability of key processes

 


Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a Master's program for a Masters internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Engineering, Life Science or related fields

Previous work experience in an Engineering field

Knowledge/experience of Continuous Improvement methodologies and tools

Strong communication skills

Ability to effectively communicate with varied client base, including all Engineering functions, project teams and management.

Understanding of general Engineering concepts and functions such as technical engineering, maintenance, construction, lab management.

Experience successfully leading improvement projects or initiatives

Experience using databases, data queries, data analysis and data visualization tools to improve business performance

Six Sigma certification (green belt or black belt)

Experience in GMP regulatory requirements and/ or Quality Management processes.

Basic project management skills
